can you tig weld aluminium? - maybe stupid question but I know nothing about welding

are they aluminium?

I have an ex-MOD Defender 1987 and need drivers side door top as mine has a big crack in the frame. can't seem to find anything on ebay and wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction of a good supplier? I've been told to steer clear of Britparts

I have just had to replace the left hand side door handle and I need to swap over the lock barrel from previous handle. anyone explain how I do this? thanks

Mine is a bit of the rusty side and i've found a replacement for about £30 Look at the existing one fitted, it looks like they are just held in by screws, but i'd rather not start if i then find they are normal welded as well Anyone know if this is an easy job to replace, by just removing screw, taking old one out and then putting new one in......or do you need some sealant as well?

when i get to about half full my fuel light flashes everytime i brake etc...... then when i get below half full this becomes more frequent any ideas?

I am taking most of the paint off due to camo finish causing ripples etc which would show clealy on respray, so nothing for their paint to react to... i think i will do it the old fashioned way and use a roller

i'm close to finishing the pref work, sanding every panel flat, filling holes etc etc...... the plan was to do the paint job myself but having never done it before i really dont want to ruin all my hard work + i would only be able to do the work using a roller rather than spary job, which is what i would prefer. anyone recommend someone who does a good job or any idea's on a rough cost to get it done, considering all painwork prepared? thanks

when you turn one notch on the ignition the oil and battery light comes on but not glow plug warning light and also no volts going through the wire, then when you crank to next the engine turns over and the glow plug warning light comes on (although flickering slightly), then the engine starts after about 8-10 seconds. im confused because the only time the glow light comes on it when turning over and then the key bounces back to first notch, which would mean this is where the glow light would also kick it and meaning its on all the time even when engine running... any thoughts?

blimey, so having removed the radio kit and the large additional alternator, it basically does nothing and has no use?

also, i have a choke pully just on passenger side, so what is that for?

the choke light flashes when i crank fully to start engine but doesn't when just switching to the initial movement of ignition key, which is what i would expect the warning light to do... any thoughts?

If anyone has read my posts you will understand that i am new to having a Landy (and loving it) but even though i have a new battery i am finding the starting of engine not great and seems to be taking longer and longer to start. mine has a choke which someone has said is unusable......is this true? i have also been advised to check the glow plugs and change if necessary anyone got any suggestions the correct starting process and mine doesnt have a light on dash like other diesels do.......probably because its an ex-MOD

any particular sealant? so just round edge, then fit with normal screws etc and wipe excess off that is pushed out?

I am planning on buying 3mm chequer plate wing tops but as the wing tops aren't completely flat (albeit they are not too bad), would you advise using a gasket as well? I assume this just mould and helps remove the uneven surface?
