  1. someone could always give me a p38, y’know bring this lost sheep back into the fold
  2. sorted my welding mask issue. ive used those helmets (dad swears by them) and like them well enough, well worth the price. ive also just bought a ac/dc tig welder (nothing to do with this project) so got a few accessories. i needed a winch to put the car on the lorry if i broke it (considering what im doing, not at all unlikely) i did the maths based on a few guides and the angle of the ramps etc meant in theory i only needed a 3000lb winch. so i bought a cheap 4000lb one... yeah that didnt work. so thats going back. i was perusing. ebay when i came across 2x winchmax 24v 13500lb winches for spares or repairs. so i took a punt on both. £35 each. one was missing the freespool lever but otherwise works perfectly, but its solenoid is u/s the otherone the freespool works fine but the motor whilst it turns it doesnt drve the drum. so ive moved the freespool lever across to the working winch and started testing solenoids. all 3 are scrap. so for £70 and the cost of a solenoid i have 1 working winch, and 2 cheap parts and a solenoid i will have a second i can sell. win
  3. look at r-tech kit. just spent a bit of time on their website myself. used rtech stuff befer and have no issues with it. always wise to stump up for a couple of spare lense covers.
  4. to be honest $500 isnt really in my budget. i was mostly wondering if any of the southern contingent wanted to spend a evening teaching me the absolute basics (machine setup etc)
  5. the course no longer exists, 8 enquired a while ago. dont ask me why its still on the website.
  6. superturbo for those that dont get that reference...
  7. yeah its all practice lol. i didnt go for a very expensive one but it seemed to be getting decent reviews so i went for this one... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/372485192391
  8. ive just bought myself a ac/dc tig welder. which is nice.. but i have only the vaguest idea how to use it. is there anyone that can tig on here that wants to have a go at teaching me how to tig aluminium? 😂
  9. yuh that was always a option, but not a very ergonomic one. lifting stuff above your head isnt ever ideal....
  10. the tyre solution, whilst it works, isnt ideal. im trying to think up something better.
  11. so lorry time finished off the carpet where i had to join it... sorted out the splash back carpeted a bit of ply to cover the second set of wheels also not pictured, sanded back and painted the filled areas along the sides and painted the front crossmember of the box. (behind the cab) wired the winch in (yes i now have one) finished off the doors all done! (well, enough for the time being) jobs left to do: put some finishing strips on the splashback finish off the pipe covers in the loo valet the cab paint the outside (yeah, thats gonna be a while!)
  12. i had a stop solenoid catch fire one and burn the loom. (i did prove it was that way round...) how the whole truck didnt go up ill never know. that was genuine.
  13. this^^ the renault laguna mk2 (and renault traffic van) got a terrible reputation for exploading gearboxes. the reason? sealed for life. i change the oil in (all of) my family's pk series gearboxes every 50k. guess what? my laguna is now on 212k miles, on its original box, my old laguna was on 180k, my dads old trafic was on 98k and his current vivaro on 62k, the lagunas and trafics milages are totally unheard of, and people wont believe me when ive told them they're on their original boxes (but not clutches in the lagunas case lol)
  14. a 5.0 p38 is a very cool concept and i want one. especially in manual form... but i think if you dont supercharge it, youll be missing a trick
  15. the grass was greasy in the paddock one morning and i had my federals 595rsr’s fitted.... couldnt actually get it into the pits. got stuck 10feet into the paddock. .... it was down hill! 😭
  16. im sure a land rover would fit, might have to take the platforms out though...
  17. i thought of that. the uprights are 25mmx3mm angle. and remember, its built as one big triangle, so for the top layer to move fore or aft it would have to tear the weld from the box section at the point and bend multiple lengths of angle, i recon it would take far more energy than it will ever have to withstand, even in a crash, to do that!
  18. if you look in the middle of the pic with no bed on youll see it is crossed to prevent twisting.
  19. britannia every time. bearing collapsed on my trailer. recovered the trailer to their depot (and then home)and the load home separately, held on to both until i could be available for delivery and didn't quibble at all. only slight downer is they took a couple of hours to get to me.
  20. two things became apparent when i put the rx8 in the back for a test the other week. 1) approach angle (surprisingly) was fine and 2) ramp over angle was not (unsurprisingly) being as it will very shortly be much lower, that needed dealing with. the original plan was to use the tail lift to lift the ramps off the ground once the front wheels are on the deck, and that does work, but is a bit of a pain, so my new plan, is to reduce the angle. solution and just gotta cut up the old chequer plate i have and bolt it to the top
  21. so very much on the home straight now. wall cabinets doors and insides painted and outside carpet covered: doors fitted yet to be stained in this pic). skirting board and architrave cut and fitted. (yet to decide on colour, any ideas? just a few niggling finishing touches left.//
  22. its not doing too badly to be honest. the eyes are now fine, no more swelling just the scabs on my lips to clear up now. (think worlds worst cold sore and you’d be about there!)
  23. lorry progress! (nearly) the last bit of work done to the kitchen doors. very nearly there.
