  1. http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopi...rt=#entry269626 Thats about where i am.. About 10 days or so if my planning is right un i should be able to post pics etc
  2. Don't be running extra wires !!!!!! The fuel sender jobbie should only have 2 wires connected to it. A green wire with a female spade on the back of your fuel gauge gets the +ve feed for the whole fuel gauging. The green wire with a male spade on it on the back of the fuel gauge runs to the VDO wiper on your intank sender. The other connector on your intank sender (black i think if i remember rightly) goes to earth. The intank sender kinda gives a varying resistance which causes the needle on the gauge to go up and down. On to the low fuel light... there is a box in behind the dash that also looks at this varying resistance. I forgotten what its called but i'm sure ya get the idea. This is what puts your low fuel level light on. But start with the simple... change the bulb.
  3. I've just fit a TD5 tank to the back of my 200tdi. It was a much better option than anything else i could find. The reason i'm doing the second tank is cos i'm doing a veggie oil conversion. Tanks done but still on with the conversion part. Once the conversions done i will be doing a full write up with pics cos a few peeps have asked about it. Firstly, buy the middle and rear sections of exhaust from a late 300tdi defender. I just went to my local motor factors and picked em up. BOSAL part numbers are 211-075 and 851-137. Cost £85 inc vat. Keep the original 200tdi down pipe, and a very short section of the 200tdi middle section. Then weld the 2 middle sections together. (was actually very easy). An adapter plate needs to be made for the exhaust mount next to the A frame, otherwise its a straight fit. Once this is done, buy a TD5 tank (WHK10040) off ebay and make sure its for a 90 and not a 110 (some sellers dont actually say). Then buy a fuel sender unit, part number WQB100430. The fuel intank sender is called a fuel pump by land rover. This is just to confuse everone. Dont be tempted to use a TD5 fuel pump as it will just cause problems. See if ya get the sealing ring, adapter, and metal ring for fitting this sender in the tank. ESR 3806/ ESR 3807/ ESR 3808. Then ya need the tank cradle WFI100070. Then ya need to modify the cradle, make some brackets to weld onto the chasis. And also cut away the triangular shaped section from your rear cross member. If ya can't use an angle grinder and weld then its a none starter. And ya will need the filler which is another ebay job. And a second fuel gauge to go in the dash again from ebay. Other than that, its a much tidier job than some after market things that i looked at and much cheaper. Another benefit of doing all this is that the Turbo spools up much much quicker !!!!!!!!!!!! This is due to the exhaust not having loads of tight 90 bends, no resonator and loosing 2 restrictive silencers for one nice fairly free flowing oval jobbie. Sounds exactly the same as before i started so i dont get a bad head either.
  4. I saw an alloy internal tank on flea bay a couple of days ago that may be worth looking at if ya not bothered about loosing the room in the back. I'm currently fitting a TD5 rear tank to a TDi, but thats as well as the side tank. They do sit quite low.
  5. It means that somewhere you got too high a resistance. Could be a furry corroded trailer socket, old cables. I had this problem but only when turning left. Was ok turning right though. Luckily for me it started when i replaced the indicator light bulb on the front wing. Swapped bulb for another one and it all worked again.
  6. Near you ..... There is a company called SPS which is Steve Or maybe Stephen pope and sons. Steve runs a welding firm and does a lot of welding for dairys and such like. It sound like one of them jobs that will take him about 20 seconds. If i still had his mobile number i'd ring him un ask him for ya but i cleared my phone out when i moved away. Worth trying to get hold of him though if you end up getting stuck. There is a large dairy at stourton in leeds .. being careful not to say the name.. They will most likely know how to get hold of him.
  7. Anyone know roughly what pressure the lift pump on a 200tdi produces ? Need to replicate this with an electric setup.
  8. Ta Don't like the look of that ... Think i'll go back to the late 300tdi sender with a facet pump and pressure regulator. Any opinions on this anyone ?
  9. Started on fitting the rear tank to my defender 90 200tdi van. I'll post the pics when its done so i can edit out the foolish bits without the world seeing So far i mastered the exhaust. I chopped the exhaust behind the first silencer and took it for a run. It was a bit too loud for my liking. Not really loud, just irritating. After about 5 miles there was a horrible smell which was probably the underseal heating up. Really really sickly smell, so this is not recommended to try out. Anyway i have used the middle and rear section of the late 300tdi and welded it to the middle of my 200tdi exhaust. As i say i'll show pics when i'm done. TD5 tank shoved in place and got my tank cradle. Tank looks like it will fit without needing to chop the rear cross member until it is shoved hard up against the body, then there is about zero clearance with that ball jointy bracketty thing underneath. Started chopping cross member yesterday. Plan is to chop the bottom of the V out and fold it down if that makes sense. Anyway... The question ... My rear tank is going to be for diesel and my under seat for veggies. I have drawn loads of fuel circuits, and looked at loads that are advertised by many 'conversion specialists'. For reasons that i will explain later, i came to the conclusion that the 200tdi will be better with using 2 seperate lift pumps. So the obvious thing to do is keep the original lift pump for veggie and use a TD5 in tank pump/sender. But .. does anyone have the part number for the plug ? And what do all them pipes do ? And which ones which ? Ta If anyone can fill an argon bottle near carlisle let me know!
  10. I spent weeks looking into this ... My conclusion was castrol transmax z in my 200tdi. The gearbox was noticably smoother as well ... best to look into it yourself though cos everyone seems to have different opinions on the subject.
  11. Ages ago someone posted a picture of the tecalemit 3/2 valve that people are using for veg conversions. Anyone know the LR part number for these ? Anyone know where to get 3 of them cheap ?
  12. I don't understand ... How can ya get engine damage from a K&N. Needless to say i got one and its on a 200tdi.
  13. I had an old sierra ghia with one of them... if they still exist in the scrappy
  14. Its ok i'm picking up on thursday morning. Thanks for the guess ... Sounds not too far out
  15. I need the measurements for a TD5 fuel tank for a 90 defender... I need to go pick one up 120miles from my home and don't really want to be putting the trailer on so want to know if it will fit in the boot of a Fiesta. TA
  16. No worries.. I'll do a load a pics 4 ya when doing the whole job so ya can see what i'm up 2. Anyone know a good cheap supplier for the cradle ? Got island 4x4 but they will only supply with the tank.
  17. If ya get stuck then i used a bit of 22mm copper tube un it worked ok. Fit cage loosly onto disc... centre disc with 22mm water tube ... tighten cage bolts ... stick gearbox on ... dun.
  18. All sounds good .. 200tdi is pretty tough. I think it was designed by using the sum of 'that and a bit more'. 200tdi is an underachiever and is probably capable of alot more. Gotta think of stroke length though. Not got figures but bet it'll be close to square.
  19. The engaging position is adjusted on the rod inside the rectangle lid. This also adjusts the pedal height. The bolt in the bottom of the box is a max pedal travel down stop. It seems to just stop ya from wearing out the carpet. My ANR 5311 has just got a very short bolt in there which doesn't even contact the pedal. That return spring ur on about. It can be fitted if ya want. I havn't fitted it on mine as dont feel its required.
  20. Anyone know the part number of the Cradle that goes under the fuel tank on a TD5 defender 90. There seem to be a couple of number that come up when i search for it. But the same number seems to also want to fit the 110 which i know can't be right. TA
  21. I normally clean mine whilst still fitted to the van .... About once a month, or when i get told that the cab stinks like a dead animal is still in there, i get the pressure washer out and clean the entire interior. I do take the seat bases oot first though ( i made that mistake only once.)
  22. The answer to a question you didn't ask ..... http://www.landroverclub.net/data/90_110.pdf ERR139020A
  23. Thats exactly what i'm doing except i already got the 200tdi bit. Any chance of some pis of the tank mountings (presuming you used a TD5 tank) and exhaust pics.
