  1. verminhunter i tried their contact form but its not working so will email them thanks for that, eightpot i know and totally agree something as light as these should only cost a couple of quid to send, this close to xmas could really do with finding a uk supplier if i can
  2. Does anyone know of a company in the uk that either stocks these adapters or can produce them for a reasonable price? readily available in the states but shipping is about $70! and my rr is off the road until i get the pas pipes sorted http://www.allstarperformance.com/product.htm?prod=405 thanks guys
  3. Power steering boxes only have so much travel in either direction so it could well be that you have reached the maximum amount the box can turn in either direction, to test this theory out turn hard lock (engine off so not to damage anything holding it there) then detach the steering link from the drop arm on the box and see whether it will turn anymore in that direction
  4. Sorry you are correct QEP105760 should read before posting
  5. What about unscrewing the connector from the power steering pump which the hose screws into and swapping it for an imperial one, i recently realised they where removable, as others have said could get the hose made up i have been contacting companies myself and to date im looking at £40 per hose ish
  6. That number has superseeded to QEP105750, paddocks sell an oem hose for £20.12 plus vat
  7. Dont know whether these would be of any interest to you http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=72612 but not that far from you
  8. I have a couple of sets of those stands above and rate them, the nice thing about the 6 ton stands is the larger footprint making them a lot more stable than the lower capacity stands
  9. Top uj part number was NRC7863 but is now obsolete, rubber coupling part number is NTC3486
  10. Just wanted to check as the later ones used a different shaft with aluminium uj's, i now of course cant find the bits, saw them the other day as well as i was considering it for mine, tbh the bearmach shaft i linked you to above which comes with both uj's anyway is fine and good value
  11. I knew when i posted that i should have gone into more detail... what i read made no mention of pins but it makes sense, it did say the inner steering column was made in two parts so that it could slide, whether the pins on mine where intact to start with i dont know im hoping to change it shortly as the lower bearing has rather a lot of play in it, although the bearing is available that link of yours says that it is "not permitted to be overhauled" which i find odd
  12. They are meant to slide i googled it after posting, its been fine since
  13. They can be yes, what year is yours i will look the numbers up for you
  14. Recently bought a bearmach item from here http://www.lrdirect.com/NTC8478-Steering-Shaft-Joints-and-Damper-Rrds/?sfi=ntc8478 free delivery if you spend over £50 plus vat as well so a few service items (like filters) would see you getting free delivery
  15. Clean up the shaft spines with a wire brush and give them a squirt of some plus gas or wd40, remove the bolts holding the lower uj to the steering box and to the shaft and gently tap the lower uj off the steering box being careful not to damage the spines on the steering box, if you got the spines clean and well lubricated the lower uj should slide up the shaft and off the box you can then undo the bolt holding the upper uj to the steering column and wiggle it off/gentle tap it off, this is how i did one recently anyway, some people may disagree but having cleaned up all of the spines i lubricated them and those on the new part with copper grease to make it easier for the future, given the bolts sit in a recess having grease in the joint wont make it any more likely to come undone by accident
  16. Tricky to put a price on it as as a vehicle its not worth a lot with that needing doing (£300-£400 mark imo) but broken up would make a fair bit more if the engine and box are good, you can pretty much guarantee that any disco 1 by now will have rust to some degree or other due to the age and lack of rust protection (many areas left coated only in primer when new) unless your lucky enough to find a jap import, if i where in the market for another i would buy one with a solid chassis thats generally in good condition condition with a sensible mileage but wouldnt pay a premium and would just accept i would need to get the welder out to do the usual bits
  17. Top should be the inlet (its marked as that on the new pump i have here) should be an arrow on the pump showing direction of flow
  18. I will second this they rust everywhere, take a good torch and something to have a good tap at it with, handle of a screwdriver would be a safe bet as it wont damage the paint, if an owner is against a gentle tapping i would be inclined to walk away, spend your time going over the bodyshell and chassis thourougly before the mechanicals as mechanical issues are easy to sort a rotten body isnt
  19. Interesting the ebc catalogue brings up the same discs for a 71 rangerover and 95 discovery both done by reg, not a fan of ebc stuff tbh but its handy to know so thanks
  20. Well in the past when i adjusted backlash on the old disco i did it with the engine running and all was fine, in the end with the rangerover i adjusted the box with the engine off and it sat on the ground and just rocked the imput shaft as i adjusted it keeping an eye on the drop arm, needs a bit more adjustment as i left a bit of play in it as i was doing it on my own and didnt want to over do it and end up with tight spots, it has made a huge improvement to the steering, only a short term measure really as i had already ordered a new box...
  21. Forgot about this thread other things on my mind, i did as les suggested and emailed them (same day les posted) and have heard absolutely nothing from mintex uk, i will chase it up
  22. I know i can go the route of custom lines im just trying to avoid using any custom parts if i can, make it a bit easier if i get stuck somewhere and need a part
  23. Funny you should mention that fridgefreezer as i happened across such a thing on an australian landrover forum, someone was doing an adapter for converting from the o ring fitting in the pas box to the earlier radius type seat fitting, the only new pas lines that seem to be readily available for sensible money are the later o ring type (same as my disco pas box) its only really the pump end thats the issue but having given it a bit of thought i recon i may be able to simple swap the fitting on the pump over (if mines radius seat) for a later one from a disco with the o ring seat
  24. From what i can see alloys only became an option in 1981 so i guess its around that time landrover modified the hubs, i fancy asking the dealer would be a waste of time for a 71 range rover, everything is computerised now and pre 85 wont be on the system
