LRFan
Hi there all, First time posting here so if this is the wrong area to post in sorry in advance! So I recently started striping down my 110 Landrover Defender so I can install it onto a new galv chassis along with/hopefully a V8 engine aswell - but I've came to a few snags - First snag is these brackets - Whats their name? I've looked everywhere and came up with nothing. - Another snag that's been eating at me is the V8 conversion, is there any kits out there for it? (For engine mounts etc) I've got the complete engine with gearbox. - One last thing, anyone recomened any paint/primer for the galv chassis? I've got the de-greaser & t-wash ready to go, just wondering what primer to go for and paint aswell! Thanks
western
Those body brackets are NRC5478 = item 5 in page 746 of http://www.retroanaconda.com/landrover/parts_books/110/9_body_and_chassis_p741-909.pdf I used a coach enamel primer & vehicle chassis gloss black paint on my galv chassis after mordant T wash application. you could try the http://www.buzzweld.co.uk/ range of paints look under the 'all products' in left column or contact them for more info. Retroanaconda
Welcome For the engine mounts, if you specify a V8 spec chassis then that will hopefully put things in the right place. Means you will need to use the later wide tunnel, and associated seatbox and floor plates though (plus propshafts) but at least things will be fairly 'standard'. Paint wise I used Buzzweld as above, however I'm only at the chassis build up stage so can't provide any info other than it has gone on well and seems good so far. Time will tell how it lasts once on the road etc. Would be interested to see pics of the strip down etc. as well as the rebuild as it goes forward

Would you know any company that'd supply said bracket? I've searched the part number and can't seem to come with a name of it? 11 minutes ago, Retroanaconda said: Welcome For the engine mounts, if you specify a V8 spec chassis then that will hopefully put things in the right place. western
it's just called 'support bracket' there are 2 on your vehicle, try https://www.johncraddockltd.co.uk/superseded/nrc5478-use-kvu101430.html or get yours bead blasted & then galvanise or just galvafroid paint & top coat in your chosen chassis colour. cackshifter
...Or just bend up some steel, or cut it out of a piece of box section. The pad is I think part 332582 or similar but it is only a bit of rubber sheet, prob 5mm.
FridgeFreezer
You need to be sure of what the "V8 conversion" is going to consist of; If you are going to use all Defender-spec parts (engine + gearbox) then if you specify that to the chassis company all the mounts should be in the correct place (but your gearbox tunnel / floor may need changing). You WILL need to work out WHICH gearbox you've got (LT77 or R380 would be most likely) and ensure it really is a Defender one, not a RR/Discovery one. If you are going to adapt the V8 to fit a non-V8 box, all bets are off and you need your tape measure - you may need to customise engine mounts or transmission mounts. It's preferable to keep the transmission in the standard position as that keeps your propshafts etc. standard. but the exhaust might end up being a bitsa. Troll Hunter
Welcome to the world of Land Rover "standardisation". I've just stripped that area of my chassis and didn't remember removing those two brackets, so I've just been out to my shop to check. Unless I'm looking at the wrong bits, it seems that the equivalent of those brackets are actually welded into the channel of the Crossmember body, NRC4171, Item 9 on p. 746. They support, and attach, the crossmember on the chassis. Best of luck with your rebuild. Mike
western
those 2 brackets are only on pick up or hard top body vehicle as the lower body is the same, station wagon has the full width cross member
