fearofweapons
Hello, my wife's SIII has a early 90 2.5 petrol in it. It needs a new exhaust. Will an SIII 2 1/4 exhaust fit? If so any guesses on which one? There seem to be many options depending on the year of manufacture and I am not sure if that is because the chassis changed or something else. many thanks for any help. regards, Rich T
Gazzar
yes, it should. Ask ACR about their stainless steel versions, Google them, with powerplus as a search term.
Gazzar
Though it depends on the manifold used. If you could get a photo of the exhaust manifold where it bolts to the exhaust pipe, that would help.
fearofweapons
Sorry pictures would make sense! Just tried to take some and it's quite hard to get a good one. I have tried my best but until I can get time to pull the air hose and maybe some of the other bits off these are the best I can do. I hope they help... Stellaghost
Could do with pictures underneath as folks can't see how the exhaust pipe attaches to the manifold your pictures show more of the manifold attached to the cylinder head regards Stephen
secondjeremy
I think the manifold coupling may be different. Looks wider - I don't think you'll get bolts with heads through a standard one.
Gazzar
Would Steve Parker be any good? They do these conversion kits for various engines. Mine wasn't great, but I got it to work....
fearofweapons
All, many thanks for the replies. I ran out of time and daylight yesterday to take more pictures and am away now 'till Friday. I'll try to get more photos on Friday - so long as its dryish, don't really fancy lying in running water to take the photo! 😉
fearofweapons
so now back home, it's not raining and I have managed to get a couple of photos. I'm hoping these provide a better view?
Gazzar
Hard to tell for sure, they are very close, for sure. I think so but.... 2.5 petrol Series 3 But different. It might be a good idea to find a supplier that will accept returns.
fearofweapons
Thanks Gazzer - looking at the pictures you posted I am going for my wife's engine having the 2.5 exhaust manifold on. ( Looks more like part 15 and it has part 17 in your diagram ). I'll start my supplier discussions based on that assumption and see how far I get... Gazzar
Yes, it's almost certainly the manifold for the engine. The problem is how does the down pipe join to the intermediate pipe. I'd but a series down pipe and take it from there. They're cheap, I think. Where you based, I think I've a spare.
fearofweapons
Many thanks for the offer Gazzer - we are Leeds based and looking and replacing the exhaust with a stainless steel one. Sounds like we will need a custom job making up. Any one know of a good SS exhaust manufacture near Leeds / Bradford please? Rich
Gazzar
Talk to ACR, they might help. They do stainless exhausts. And also know the 2.5 engine, so should be able to tell you.
Landrover17H
I see a 17H manifold. You'll need to cobble up a link-pipe. The 17H manifold is superior, but moves the exit further forward. I understood ACR do S/S silencers only. You have these options: 1) Fit a Series manifold - and complete exhaust system. It'll fit but manifold will strangle a 2.5 and might increase fuel consumption too. 2) Leave 2.5 manifold and cobble a custom link pipe to stock Series system. Cheapest way is via a stock 2.5 front pipe mated to stock series front pipe. 3) Get ACR's mild/steel manifold and link pipe. Dear, but will give a bit of extra grunt too. Hint: If you're dong the whole system look for a twin-box varaint. Was an option back in the day. If you can find one, quieter, and less restrictive. More so with a 2.5, those had twin-box when they lived in the 90/110. Edited March 18, 2020 by Landrover17H
