Falklandislander2003
Just out of curiosity how difficult is it to put a new reverse light in? There is no original unit on the rover for some reason 🤷♂️ cheers tom
monkie
Not very difficult. You take the 12v supply from a green wire behind the dash (green is a fused live with ignition on), it should be on the same fuse that fuses the brake lights, indicators and instrument lights). Run the feed to the switch on the gear box, then a green/brown wire from the switch to the light on the rear of the vehicle. The standard reverse light units just have the green/brown supply and an earth. Job done.
Falklandislander2003
cheers monkie also since I'm still a beginner where is the switch on the gearbox? cheers tom
monkie
I have an LT77 gearbox and the switch is easily seen if you remove the panel under the centre seat. I'm not sure if the location of the switch varies with the other gearboxes but have a look on Google images or land rover workshop on the parts diagrams. western
Look in each rear corner behind the rubber flap in the wheelarch, not inside rear body, LR usallay fit a common loom so the vehicles has the wiring prefitted, your looking for Green with a brown trace,
monkie
Yes, that's a good point. I noticed a few different coloured wires in my main loom that were unused as they were for unfitted optional extras. I can't imagine they would fit a chassis loom with no green/brown wire for the reverse light.
pete3000
the locknut is a defintite requirement. if you screw in too far then it may be difficult to get reverse? My ex-mod 110 had no reverse light originally, you can add one or convert a fog light over with another lens. Pete
BogMonster
If it's a vehicle sold here then I would have thought it had one originally so the wiring etc is probably there. Can't imagine why it would have been taken off though the FIDF had some odd ideas about reverse lights at one point, if they ever had it.
