landy_andy
Had the old D90 tub sitting along side the property for a long time, started building a frame for it back in 2019 but it got back burnered. As we’re moving house in the spring it was time to finish it off… and a buddy decided he wanted it. Frame is mostly 3”x2”x3/16” wall tube with a 3”x3” reach.
landy_andy
Axle was designed to use the left over parts from the old D1 axle I had in the 90, I drew up some adaptor plates to graft the stubs onto some 3” Sch.80 pipe. I then made some brackets to mount the old calipers & some caps for the hubs.
landy_andy
Tub had the front closed off with some 16g aluminum sheet & a section of capping grafted into the top. Modified the old ‘All Wheel Trim’ hood to be accessible from both end & cover the long storage area on the front.
Popular Post landy_andy
Finished up with mounting his RTT on top and the trail bike carrier on the front. Brakes are connected up to a surge coupler with LED lights all round. Will look great once it’s had a coat of black ‘Raptor Liner’ on the tub.
bishbosh
Looks great! Any plans for shocks on the axle or does it ride OK?
simonr
Well done Andy - that looks great! I like the little step at the front - presumably as easy access storage for all the bits & bobs. Also, it's the first time I've seen someone using a Surge Coupler, hydraulic braking system. I presume it facilitates auto-reversing somehow? Does it have a park-brake?

We’re going to see how it tows, easy to add some later if required. Already have the brackets.

Easier to just close it off at the door opening rather than cut it back. The surge coupler was the cheaper option over using an electric/hydraulic braking unit, no one makes electric brakes with the LR lug pattern. There is a reverse solenoid on the back of the coupler and no park brake. It’s not a normal thing in NA… just carry chocks.
landy_andy
With regards the park brake, it’s unusual to have a jockey wheel, most cargo type trailers just have a jacking so brakes aren’t really needed. Boat trailers tend to have jockey wheels but there short so I ended up getting the one I used from Amazon…. It actually came from Stoke-on-Trent. JohnnoK
That looks great! I'm planning something similar using a rather neglected Series 1 tub, and I'm going to build a chassis for it so it looks like the original chassis was modified to make it a trailer and it will be adorned with a (no internal parts) Salisbury diff running D2 wheels to match my tow vehicle.
