Arjan
I seem to remember reading about a company / companies who make a "stand alone" ECU for the Td5 in a Discovety II. A friend is preparing for a long trip and would like to do away with the comms needed between the Immobilizer, BCU and EMS to keep the vehicle going. Anybody knows who they are ? simonr
I wonder if it might be as simple as just using a Defender ECU? Since the Defender doesn't have a BCU. One or two of the 'tuning' companies are offering to bypass the immobiliser. Without these, it is pretty much stand-alone.
landroversforever
That was my understanding - they're either defender ECUs or Discovery ones which have been modified.
Arjan
Thanks. Looking further into it. Thinking about a "analogue" DII....
Escape
The Defender TD5 does have an alarm module that incorporates an immobiliser, I don't think they can be run stand alone. I posted a link some time ago to a company that offers a bypass for several Land Rover vehicles/ engines: No personal experience though. landroversforever
They can be programmed to not need the 10AS to start.
Maverik
Have a look at this site - I was reading about them the other day, cant remember how I got onto it. Td5 Stand Alone Engine Harness (pace4x4.com)

Arjan
"They can be programmed to not need the 10AS to start." I'd be very interested to learn how this is done ! Have both Nanocomm and a Hawkeye
Escape
My understanding is this cannot be done with the typical user diagnostics like Nanocom or Hawkeye, but only with proper reprogramming equipment. But glad to be proven wrong. 🙂

Escape Posted yesterday at 07:28 AM Share Posted yesterday at 07:28 AM Maybe I wasn't clear (quite likely 😉 ). It is my understanding any ECU can be made to run stand alone, provided you can get deep enough into to code to convince it all criteria are met. No doubt that is a lot easier to do on some ECUs compared to others, but I'm not that versed in the details.
