Highway_Star
I tried engine oil, made the throttle a bit sluggish to respond when floored suddenly. A mate suggested ATF, which worked well. Tried 3in1 also but it was too thin, leaked past the piston quickly, or maybe my carbs were worn,
istruggle2gate11
Back in those dark ages of carbs I used ATF as ^ engine oil made response a bit slow

Mark90
ATF if it doesn't drain away too quick, if so 20/50. Also heard of people using veg oil.
Les Brock
Blimey mix of different stuff being used then
Mark90
As you can see Les it's not that critical, although you might find the response a bit slow if you use EP90. The real carb tuning artisans concoct their own mix of oils to give the desired viscosity.
DEANO3528
I tended to stick with 20/50 myself as I found that the lighter stuff can give a flat spot due to the piston lifting a bit too smart-ish. Doesn't tend to get sucked away so easily either.
Pete Attryde
you could try one of these:- Carb damper oil dashpot oil My old man uses one of them in the SU's on his MG, can't remember which one, but it works well. HTH Pete.
Bowie69
20w50 all the way for me, too light and you will get hesitation, and too heavy you will get a slow throttle response
