simon red90
so i've picked up a 300tdi disco really cheap and have always wanted a 100" defender. i figure i need to put a new rear cross member on it, outriggers, obviously the bodywork, tub and tank mounts, but what else? will i need to get a defender R380 box or keep the disco item? if anyones built one, just an outline would be much appreciated. cheers. si

smo
Turning a disco into a defender is daft. You'd have been better off starting with a 110 and chopping it, a 90 and moving the rear axle or a RRC chassis and building from scratch! Keep it as a disco! russ3120
you need to have a chat with landrover598, he has done the 100" defender thingy
missingsid
Erm Unless I have missed something why not buy the vid series?? Or is there a fundemental difference between Disco and RRC as a base?
Corrode Finger
i assume the 300 tdi Disco is rotten as a pear hence the question? having said that, you are basically building a hybrid, equally take a shufty at my build thread in the members vehicle section..... Another 100" Shires Kingcab, it was on about page 3 the last time i looked. Admittedly its a RRC 3.9 Auto, but the basic idea's the same. FridgeFreezer
Unless I have missed something why not buy the vid series?? It's one way of doing it, but a lot of it is not how I'd do it and not how others have done it. A RRC or Disco is almost identical as a base. Mark
If the Body shell is rotten, then making a 100" defender sounds like an emminently sensible idea to me... particularly as I have repaired both disco and rangie shells and it's not fun! My 3 pences worth is that 100" allows you to move the engine/box back, the truck cab back and still tray the rear. This allow room for a 3/4 link at the front, the engine is more central and the cab, outriggers ,moved back a little to allow for 40"tyres. theres alot of work after you've finished the chassis and you'll need a 90/110 for the rest of the bits. I'd personally go cut down 110 hi cap etc, you've got all the parts and a v5,just needs amending B)
simon red90
ok, cheers folks, i'm not building a challenge truck, although i see huge merit in using a 100" chassis for one. i wanna build a defender for towing but without the size of a 110. and since i've landed a (top half worn out) 300 disco at the right price, i'm gonna give it a shot. i'll let you know how i get on. si
billybob
There's a guy in the US that converted a 90 to a 100 It has a 300Tdi and he's running it on a biodiesel/veggie oil system.
