OilIT
The rear wiper on my defender seems to take about 5-6 sweeps then stops in any random position (with the switch still on), if i turn it off, it will in about 30 seconds then finish its sweep and then return to park. Tunr it back on - the same happens again. It does it even when the screen is wet with roadspray etc. Anybody got any ideas as to where to start? western
take the arm/blade off & motor out of the door, spray some WD40 or light oil [3 in 1] down the drive shaft sides, mine got really slow & eventually stopped, a dose of WD40 sorted it. Gromit
Mine's been playing similar games. Give the connector block on the door a wiggle and see what happens. Mine had a bunch of corrosion in it.
Big_Jon
When mine was completely seized I took the whole assembly off and immersed the shaft in plusgas for a week and “worked” the shaft each night once it started to free up. Not had any further problems in the last couple of years. Jon
harle
Mines playing up at the moment too, if i were to completely remove the motor from the door, would it still pass its MOT? I know there are a few MOT testers on this board that may be able to answer my question.
AndyEvans
yes it should do. mine had seized totally up so i removed it to sort it out and it passed the mot fine without it. also my old fiesta didnt have one and passed ok with out it
Godlykepower
I had the exact same problem last year.....as Western says, spray some WD40 all over the place. I did not take the wiper arm off though, I went from behind and took the motor cover off and sprayed about 14 litres of WD40 all over, getting in to whatever holes you can see. Not had a problem since. As far as I'm aware, I dont think that the rear wiper not working is grounds for an MOT failure. Cant be certain though. pat_pending
Rear wiper is not part of the MOT. As others have said, the shaft seizes up. Its not too difficult to strip the motor, clean up the shaft and refit it with some grease.
