What's the highest capacity PAS pump?

Pumps that are exactly the same style as the 'ZF74' are found on 1.9 diesel Passats and Merc vans of mid to late 90's vintage.......

Whether the internals are the same I know not.......... but I would guess that they are......

:)

Nope, They use the same casing but there is no car with output figures any where near what is claimed of a ZF74. I think from what I could work out the ZF74 is produced for an industrial application but it has definitely not been fitted to a car. Although the ZF pumps they fit to cars that look the same would be a huge improvement over a landrover pump.

Thats pi*****on my parade! Any idea what it may be? May have to go and have a root round the scrappy for one of those then!

Is there any way i could find out the flow of this one? These are the numbers off it if they are any good

Its definitley a zf pump off a bmw 130 bar

Also has 3.89 on it, maybe a flow?

Other numbers are 11322830

In this months LRW mag there's a feature on a US D90 rock crawler that i wroted.

The owner is running a high-steer hydo-assist set-up that uses a high capacity PAS pump they discovered by chance fitted straight onto the Rover V8 bracket. I've been in touch with the owner today and although he wouldn't tell me exact specs and part numbers he did tell me he's working on a bolt-on Defender high capacity pump kit right now with this outfit in the US - PSC Motorsports.

FWIW: Steering box was by Lee Manufacturing.

So nobody recognises the one in my pic above then? I have a bracket which i made to fit it to my 200 so may just try it, prob is i do need a big pump as i have full 4 wheel steer with slightly bigger rams than some i have seen! Cant beat a bit of over engineering here and there!!!

honitonhobbit.......so i guess they have zf74`s then?

I think the next page is almost the same pump ZF brand

ZF FP4 Series Power Steering Vane Pumps

7690、7691、7692(for power ste

FP4 series Impeller Pumps

Models: 7690、7691、7692(for power steering gears)

Features:

1.FP4 series vane pumps are a high-duty power source for vehicles'

power steering system. They have outstanding speed and discharge

performance that are applicable to the vehicles power steering

system that requires constant (specific) pump discharge for

speed variation and overload protection.

2.This series of products are characterized by stable output

flow, wide speed range, little pressure pulsation, compact,

free-of-external-leakage and low noise, etc.

3.The pumps are incorporated with flow control valve and safety

valve. The output flow may be specifically designed depending

on the type of engines and steering system to be used. The pressure

may be regulated by safety valve to prevent the system from

overload against pump failure and accidents.

Scope of application:

The products are applicable to cars, light passenger cars, pick-ups

as well as carrier vehicles and engineering machineries (pump

with or without plastic oil tank are optional).

Product model 7690 7691 7692

Theoretical discharge capacity ml/rev. 7.2 8.5 11.0

Dominant discharge l/min 4~8 4~10 4~12.5

Constancy or dropping characteristic Optional

May be controlled acc. to rpm (connected to electro valve)

Speed range/rpm 600-8000 600-6500

Plastic oil tank

Fuel charge Positioned with pins (optional)

About 300ml

Weight of pump (with or without oil tank)

Shell made of aluminum alloy About 1.6/1.5kg

My best gues is the ZF 74 is same as ZF FP4 7692

PS I use the ZF 74 to MM 10500lbs winch but looking for a faster option as well.

best regards Theo

My Isuzu engine has a gear driven vane pump for power steering duty. It would be easy to replace the gear with a pulley and make a mounting bracket to suit.

The spec in the workshop manual are:

displacement: 12.2 cc/rev (0.732 in*3/rev)

relief valve setting: 85 kg/cm*2 (1208 psi)

delivery volume at 200 rpm: 8 litre/min (1.8 UK gal/min

pump operating speed 450 - 4000 rpm

The engine is out of an Isuzu truck. Other trucks may have suitable ps pumps.

Hello all, first post on here but been lurking in the background for a while now!

In the process of building something of my own and have been on the hunt for the elusive ZF74 for a while now and just thought you might like to know what i've found so far and if anyone can build on it....

First of all found this http://www.unofficialbmw.com/images/steering-flush.pdf which appears to give part numbers and lists vehicle fitment. Getting all excited i went and looked for a couple of 7692 pumps but unfortunately they where all 110bar.

I then found this http://www.zf-lenksysteme.de/upload/edit_2...Pumpen04_D2.pdf I know it's all in German but if you scroll down the page to near the bottom there's a table giving flow rates and pressures, from this it looks like the pump to go for would be the ZF FP6 series. Again unfortunately the only car i've found with one fitted is the E60 M5 so still a little bit spendy!

So if we can find a fitment list we should have cracked it, just need to spend a bit more time on google then.....

Regards.

Don't know how much truth this holds, but a bit of advice I received was to go to a scrap yard, look at BMW, Audi & Mercs and see how many grooves the PAS pulleys have.

Vehicles are fitted with 3,5 & 7 'V'. They are mostly 110 or 115 Bar - but the number of V's is proportional to the flow.

I found the pump I eventually used on a 7 series 'pimp mobile'!
