Afternoon all!

Trying to hunt around for insurance - NFU have turned me down because they wont insure anyone under 25! and i'm 19!

Trying to get my 110 TD5 insured.. my renewal quote with elephant has suddenly jumped to £1200 from £800!

Any ideas? or are you all far too old to understand my situation?! haha

Try Bell, they insured me at 23 with one year NCB on a 2001 90 TD5 for about 580 I think, fully comp. Also do a bonus accelerator thing that gives you a full years NCB after ten month's insurance.

Just a word about insurance engines. Renewal quotes are always higher than new business. Might be worth trying a new quote with your current ensurer.

Dun all this over and over I was with the CO OP fantastic cheap insurance BUT thay stopped doing 110's and will only do a 90 now. I spent hours and hours and hors on the phone no one wanted to know becouse of the engine change from a Turbo to a 200TDI and the fact it has 11 seats. Adrian flux gave me a good quote this year (last year told me no wouldnt insure me work that out I cant) and thay allso cover all your modifications. In the end I went MCE 0870 4202914 A good price I pay £281 fully comp for me and the mrs for a 1990 110 with 11 seats and lots of modifications with a garanteed pay out of £10,000 which is what I wanted as spent so much on it. Adrian Flux was similar price but couldnt do the garanteed pay out so no good for me.

Hope thats of some help Paul

With all the land rovers i have had insured and still being a young driver too I'd highly recommend Adrian Flux.... I have changed vehicle countless times throughout the year(s) and have never had a problem once, they've covered every modification you could imagine on my vehicles and given good prices....

First land rover i insured with them was at 18 with 1 years NCB coming in at just over £300 which was a 90 with engine change, cage, lift, different axles and a whole heap more.... and less than £100 on my series.....

Only thing they were a little dearer on way my Volvo but still got a very good price in the end.....

I would recommend adding an older driver to your policy as well (not a family member) I have found this always knocks a good chunk off of the premium... I've always gone fully comp regardless, you'll find FC is some times cheaper than TPF&T or TP and visa versa... Insurance is a funny world.....

I can give a few other hints on knocking money of your insurance if your prepared to put in a little effort to knock a good bit off of your insurance....... PM me and i can give a few good pointers.....

Cheers, Daniel.....

I take it you have grandfather rights on your licence to be driving the 110...?

Right, finally got my renewal sorted -my last insurer refused to re-quote me for whatever reason, and yes I had been a good boy!

I have a strange combination of needing Business Class Use, as well as being allowed to take the vehicle off road (even if you don't want insurance for it, if you take it off road they will want to know, and therefore hike the premium or refuse you cover!)

I went through just about all the 'specialist' companies the only company to offer the combination of modified in more than 2 areas, Business Class Use, and off road use was....... Adrian Flux, BAH! and there was me holding them at arms length due to SOME people's reported experiences with them.

Having said that they were very very helpful on the phones, knew what they were talking about and even allowed me to make a change for free after I forgot to tell them about something.

£387 fully comp all in with only a £200 excess, protected NCB (10yrs+), 5K a year, Courtesy car, european cover, business class, LPG, suspension mods, winch(not fitted yet, but will hopefully be this weekend ;)) and mud terrains all declared, off road cover included as well as greenlaning (most insurers class this as off-road when it blatantly isn't).

Thumbs up on the selling side anyways, let's hope I don't have to deal with a claim!

How you mean Grandfarther rights on my licence Im 40 and only had a car licence 5 years allways bike and sidecar before that

Well if you passed your test after 1997 this does not entitle you to drive any vehicle with more than 8 seats without a minibus licence the same as you cannot drive anything over 3.5 tones or tow a trailer with a gross weight of over 750KG... I got pulled up by the police in my 110 which only had 5 seats...

They would not let me drive the vehicle away, i had to get someone else to come and drive it home at 11 o'clock at night on a country road.... NIGHTMARE.....

Eventually after getting bother the day after and then the day after that... (I had spoken with VOSA, DVLA and the british department of transport) I arranged a meeting with the local inspector who had a look over my vehicle and after explaining that it was a specially made 110 for the hydro-electric and there for was never designed to carry more than 5 he let me off with it and sent e-mails to the other officers explaining this.....

So basicly if you have a transit minibus pull out all the seats besides the front two and convert it to a camper your still driving a mini-bus and breaking the law..........!!!

Just one to watch out for as the police are getting tighter on this (especially younger ones) as they can't do this...!!!

Daniel
