bishbosh
I have some somewhat blobby upside down and awkward spaces welds that I want to tidy up a bit before I paint. Can't get at them with the grinder and flap wheel. I know a die grinder is the right tool with a carbide burr but I don't have a compressor. All the electric die grinders I can find are silly money. So, anyone got any clever ideas? Is it worth trying something in an electric drill? What about a Dremmel or similar? I presume they wouldn't be up to the job? Thanks
Milemarker Type S
Dremels do a surprisingly good job of tidying up welds in awkward spots- obviously not as quick as an angle grinder but does the job... The other tool I use extensively for such things is an air file- I know you have no compressor and I am not sure that they do an equivalent electric one so looks like the dremel is your best bet. Bowie69
These are a bit of cash, though you can probably find something cheaper, but they do work pretty well, especially with the coarse belts on them: http://shop.ccabrasives.com/black--decker-...a293e-711-p.asp
MogLite
You'll be needing a Black & Decker Powerfile Works a treat, just dont use them side-side, cause then the belts fall off. Andy
Les Henson
I use a powerfile sometimes and they are quite good at getting in those pokey places. Les.
bishbosh
Thanks folks, the powerfile looks good! I have also just stumbled across THIS on the Blag. Any comments? Other than twice the price of the powerfile?
Turbocharger
I don't have a compressor. Yes you do - mine!
bishbosh
Well, I got a powerfile today and gave it a blast. does just what I need so thanks for the recommendations! My only observation is that it has a prodigious appetite for belts! I'm off to eblag for a job lot!
simonr
By coincidence - I've just bought a powerfile too! It's not arrived yet - but it sounds a good choice! I expect Les bought one for his toenails! Si
Les Henson
At least I don't use an angle grinder to shave Les.
simonr
Mine has arrived now. Having cleaned my teeth, I tried it on some ugly welds - and it did a fantastic job. Much better than a die grinder as the surface speed of the belt is higher. I would recommend them to anyone whose welding is occasionally untidy! (or has toenails like a gorilla) Si
