Guest otchie1
Actually, if you would be scavenging wasted energy, using a thermoelectric device would probably be less effective than running a stirling of the exhaust heat. The electric energy produced by the peltier-seebeck would need some kind of converting to actually help move the vehicle. The mecanical energy from the stirling could be used directly.Of course, it is a totally other scenario if you were to use the electrical energy from the thermoelectric device for electrolysis. But I still dont think the result would merrit the work. Two engines running at differing crankspeeds would need two gearboxes to drive one set of wheels whereas the thermo-electric effect would plug straight in to Mr Brown's Wonderful JamJars of Power. Nah, you can use Stirling to pump the AirCon, I'll carry on touting thermoelectrics for real work A sail would show significant improvements but tacking up the M25 might be problematic
Mo Murphy
I'm sorry Mo but he's not God either, otherwise all this carp would actually work. Bugger, Nick, there go my dreams of a Land Rovering afterlife Mo
Turbocharger
The biggest issue with harnessing the (considerable) wasted energy is the extra weight of the kit to recover it. You could get a similar gain from removing that weight instead of adding it. Looking at it overall, improving efficiency should always be secondary to reducing the amount of energy you need. nicks90
as i aint a chemist or physicist - to sum up are you lot saying:- this is complete snake oil. any catalyst benefit of running a miniscule amount of HHO in a diesel to improve the efficiency of the burn is still outweighed by the energy required to run the device If it really did release more than it used - they would build massive versions and run the worlds electrical supply on it instead of gas or nuke power stations. any mpg gain is probably more to do with subconcious changes to driving style to "make" the system work in your own head. ??? FridgeFreezer
Like when you change the oil or wash the car it seems to go better When it's been scientifically proven that dirty cars and trucks are more efficient (the dirt makes a smoother airflow over the vehicle than shiny polished bodywork). Tis true, they tried it on trucks years ago and found they saved fuel if they were dirty

That sounds like the shark skin effect where the rough texture produces a 'skin' of stationary fluid stuck to the fish. As the coefficient of friction between water & water is less than that between water & fish, it goes faster. Speedo did some magic with it at an olympics a few years ago, didn't know truckers were sniffing the same fish, so to speak.
will_warne
No point writing this again particularly as Kim and Lara seem to have covered it rather well. This sort of carp that the ebayers are trying to sell reminds me of the time machine in Napoleon Dynamite.... It doesn't work and is potentially dangerous. wozza35
Dont worry about fitting one of these gismo's lets just find out where the seller lives as it says his fuel is getting dear at £1.30 a GALLON round here its £1.30 a litre
