(110 LT77s with defender LT230 transfer box) You might want to renew all gaskets, or replace with a good gasket sealant. Check sealing of solenoid and also remove a check speed sensor to make sure all is intact and the fit it again as per instructions once you have installed od. There's a tech archive article too on the gkn od. It's straightforward though. Steve
western
if you need gaskets or seals contact Devon4x4.com, IIRC they took over the units from GKN & all the spares. have a look at this fitting thread here
101sean
When fitting the countersunk bolts to the adaptor plate in the back of the box, clean both threads and use threadlock. Not mentioned in instructions and mine worked loose (possibly due to vibration in worn Tbox) The torque figure of 40Nm seems a bit low so I retightened mine a fair bit more. Otherwise the instructions cover it fairly well. Point others mave made is the oil change interval is a bit long. Yes D4x4 have the spares, just rebuilt mine as the working loose damaged a bearing. reb78
Just been on to Devon 4x4. They do indeed stock all of the spares and can source more from the States according to the lady i spoke to. I have ordered a Gasket and Seal kit. Just gotta wait for it all to arrive now! lbj
Just picked up a nearly new GKN overdrive and was wondering if, apart from the instructions supplied, anyone had any tips/recomendations for fitting/maintenance?? (110 LT77s with defender LT230 transfer box) Hi Just make sure to change the oil in the overdrive for every 10000 km (6000 miles), and use automatic gearbox oil. Do not pay antention to the manual as I believe it says oilchange for every 55000 km. We are very pleased with ours in the 110 TD5 STW which have don some 265000 km, and I believe the overdrive has done well over 175000 km now.......and yes I change the oil for every 10000km. best regards Lars
reb78
Thanks for all the replies. Got the gaskets and the OD has arrived over the weekend. Just one more question.... The input gear assembly i will be removing is cross drilled as i've fitted a recon gearbox and wanted to avoid the worn gearbox mainshaft as suffered by the previous box which was used without a cross drilled input gear. The question really is - will the overdrive inhibit the lubrication of the mainshaft at all and cause mainshaft wear (as it is not cross drilled)? Is there anything to be done that can decrease the chances of this happening? Have you guys with overdrives experienced this wear as a result of fitting them? Thanks
western
It'll be fine the gear gets lubed by the overdrive units fluid & the mainshaft still gets lubed by the transfer box, no wear on mine since my OD has been fitted. pics of fiitting mine Here pic 1 at the bottom right.
