Why?

Surely 24 spline is an improvement on 10 spline?

I thought that he will swap the complete axle so there would be no parts issues.

they are still 10spline in the diff

and 24 spline on hub end

thats the difference but both axles will fit

All rover-type Series diffs are 4.7:1 10-spline, youdo have to watch drain/fill plug holes as you can end up with no way of filling the axle :blink: but apart from that no difference. As has been said, Salisburys are different and later axles went to 24-spline hubs.

the axle casing can also take damage if a diff goes bang in the wrong way

my rear axle is leaking oil from 2 holes where my last died and bits jammed against the casing

i'm not sure if i will just weld over the leaks or replace the casing yet

I thought the holes were in your diffpan Ian?
