Mr Bean
Will a Defender 90 or 110 dashboard fit in a Series 3 88"? If so does anyone have any pictures or tips?
western
not that different to a S3 unit, so should be possible to fit a 90/110 dash in place.
Mr Bean
What about a puma Dash board? Any ideas?
western
doubt that will fit even on a Defender all the bulkhead attachments are ifferent & the bulkhead is too
dave88sw
puma dashboard would be a vast amount of work for very little gain. However, any defender dash would fit easily, all the holes are in the same places, td5 would fit but there is a bracket in the centre of a td5 bulkhead that the series doesnt have, you could fabricate that mount although you'd probably find it strong enough without it. So any dash would fit from the defender, td5 needs work but would still fit. Hope that helps Dave
Mr Bean
Thanks for the replies it's given me something to consider
dave88sw
the only problem i can see is the speedo, the series uses a squashed cable end drive so its an oval, whereas the defenders cable is shaped into a square and so the defender speedo cant be driven by the series transmission unless someone's found a way around it? The series speedo does fit the defender dash though Dave
Mr Bean
Sounds like you've given this some thought!
Snagger
I have the grey plastic part of a pre-2002 Defender dash on my 109, and a Mudstuff.co.uk centre console.
dave88sw
Sounds like you've given this some thought! How'd you guess Have been toying with the idea for a while now, mainly because of the availability of decent defender dashes rather than mangled series ones. Mr Bean
Are the speedo cables interchangeable? I mean will the defender cable fit a series gearbox? But it does sound very simple to have to just change the clocks instead. What are you going to do?
Jon White
Well a series cable fits an Lt230 cos thats what I run on my series so it cant be that different! Jon
dave88sw
well i dont know what i'd do, from the sound of the last post, the series cable would be a tight enough fit in the defender speedo that it should work, i'll probably try to fit the cable and if it doesn't like it then just swap the speedo units over.
