renault4
I can't afford a snorkel so I'm going to put a piece of 3" flexipipe directly from the air box up through the wing and up the windscreen. problem is I want to completely blank off the side vent and drill a hole in the wing top but the heater vent is in the way. Can I ditch the air inlet to the heater and let it just take air from inside the engine compartment? with maybe a mesh cover over the end of the heater fan?. Will this effect the heater's performance(hahaha)?
Retroanaconda
It would reduce the amount of airflow generated by the ram-air effect yes, but the fan-powered performance would still be the same. Pics when it's done!
crwoody
Might have a bit of a problem with picking up fumes and burnt oil smells from the engine without an external heater inlet.
santalars
My heater sucks from inside the engine compartment. No strange smells so far.
pete3000
might be worth having a look at a winterised/wading military 2.5 NA diesel spec defender as the snorkel sits on top of the N/S wing in the space that the heater inlet normally uses. A bit of 3" pipe then goes to a series 3 round mesh type inlet on the side of the wing towards the front to feed the heater. pete
ejparrott
A piece of 3" pipe need not be expenisve for going up the side of the screen, the southdown ones use a piece of stainless. There are a few internet places that sell 3" exhaust pipe, and you could probably get some steel pipe from a fab shop, i can from mine up the road. It would be a lot easier to attach than a flexi up the screen!
danielh110
this is mine lol bit of drain pipe for now and some flexy through the bonnet to the air box. not ripped it off yet unlike my old safari one... dan
