Strange.

Hi all, earlier i was driving my 300tdi disco at about 65 mph and felt a bit of a bump/bang and then had no power, rolling to a stop and the engine just stopped. Looked under the bonnet to see nothing wrong so thought it might be cam belt as it did a similar thing when i had one snap before. As i didn't wont to do any damage i didn't try and turn it over and called a mate to tow me off the busy dual carriageway and home. Once home i undid the top of the timing cover to see the belt tight and looking good. So turned so bottom pulley over by hand and all seemed well. So i tried starting and fired up fine, been for a good run in it and all seems well which has puzzled me. Any one had anything similar and know what might of caused the engine to stop. Chris

Did you happen to look inside the air filter housing? There is always the chance you got some water in there in the past, then given freezing temperatures some kind of ice blockage broke free with the engine heat and lodged somewhere, subsequently melting.... I know it is a long-shot but who knows. :)

Had a similar thing happen to my 300Tdi on Friday - it didn't quite cut out, but wouldn't pull in first and then stopped. Pulled over, phoned for a tow and thought I'd just try to move it out of the way and away she went, a little sluggish at first, but then back to normal. Did think to check the air filter too, that is ok.

Called in to my local Landy specialist a couple of hours later, their mechanic had a quick look - checked connectors, as suggested above, and also tried the lift pump, but couldn't suggest anything. He seemed to think it would be ok, ruled out jellied diesel and condensation pretty much, but couldn't really offer an answer. As I was doing local trips I used it all day, on and off, and have again today and it's fine.

If anything else odd happens I'll post it up, especially if I get an answer!
