Finn
Has anyone got an idea what this tool is called. And what it is for? I found it in an Ex Mod tool box. Cheers, Finn
PaulMc
It looks like a Slide-Hammer. I've no idea what for, though .
errol209
It looks like a Slide-Hammer. I've no idea what for, though . I think it is gauge, as the faces marked 3, and 5 get progressively further form the axis of the shaft. Still no idea what for though
mickeyw
Gauge/setting tool of some sort. No idea what for though.
David Sparkes
There is a 2 and a 6 on the East / West edges. It may be a setting gauge for a piece of true military hardware, not a mere Land Rover. If the toolbox was in an ex-military vehicle my next step would be to look at a pukka Workshop Manual, concentrating on the Service Tools section. I don't recall the LR standard, one section for all Service Tools, or just listing the Service Tools required at the end of each specific section (engine, gearbox, axles, etc). Otherwise sign up to Military Forums, starting with EMLRA, then finding and choosing forums that are more Military than Land Rover. Nige P
Try on HMVF.co.uk. Several guys on there are ex REME fitters or Tiffys. They should know what it is. Nige
Finn
Many thanks for all the reaction. I found it in a toolbox, which was not in a particular vehicle. I will ask at HMVF By the way, the numbers go from 1 - 8 Cheers, Finn
martinspragg
It's the jack handle for a chieftan tank
Finn
Haha.. I thought so :-) Some repleys from the other forum: Clutch and pressure plate installation tool, the numbers to keep track of the pressure plate bolt tightening sequence maybe? Just a guess and: Looks like a tool for seeting static timing or a clutch allingment. I would guess the numbers adjust to give an angle?
