Athena
Hi All I recently bought a set of master drain plug key set, for my axles, transfer box etc, but there is not enough room to get my rachet in with key, had a look on the net for the tool but no joy, can anyone reconmend a store or a link for me to order one, as i need to change my transfer box oil! Cheers All Dan
poohbear
Is the drain plug not 1/2" square as per level fill plug and axle drain/fill? If so 1/2" drive ratchet/bar should do. No doubt there will be an adult along shortly to put things right. Dave.
bishbosh
If it is an LT230 you are talking about, then you don't need any fancy "keys". The drain is a 13mm (IIRC) hex bolt and the filler is a 1/2" square drive (i.e. the end of your wratchet!) Nothing more complicated than that! Athena
Hi Bishbosh I need to take out the filler bolt out, but with the ratchet i have and i/2 drian plug key will not fit in the gap between the transfer box and hand brake drum Cheers Dan
landrover598
but with the ratchet i have and i/2 drian plug key will not fit in the gap The ratchet goes directly into the plug, no need for any keys.
Athena
Ah I see, i thought that but the wratchet i have is too small for this, i will need to buy a 1/2" wratchet! Cheers Dan
western
if you have a 1/2 inch adaptor or extension bar to fit your existing ratchet handle you can use that.
jbs
And make sure that you clean the 1/2 square hole out first with a small screwdriver as I've had to do that a few times with all the mud and other rubbish that gets into the hole-otherwise the 1/2 inch ratchet won't fit in it properly and could slip out HTH John

Later LT230s have a square socketted drain plug too, it even has a magnet built in to it, as Nige found out recently. I can't tell you the part number of the top of my head, but they are compatible as axle drain plugs too.
