Mean Green
If i was not so tired and actaully thought about it - I would probably know the answer to this... If I remove the half shafts can I put the wheels back on and move the 90? I dont think I have enough room to pull out the shafts in the garage - so will do it in the drive and then want to put it back into the garage. PS - How much room do you need to pull half shafts clear?
minimaquinas
hi you dont need to take the wheels off unless they are alloys and there is no problems moving it hth
Landy-Novice
it will still move but not by its self, and about 1 meter give or take they should come off with out removing the wheels, just unbolt the flanges.
LandyManLuke
- You can only pull the rear shafts - fronts have CVs/swivels in the way. - Put it in diff lock and you can still drive it (gently) - Doing so will probably ensure oil/grease dribbles all over the wheels. - As above, regarding steel/alloy wheels. landroversforever
As above, you can only pull the rear shafts like this. (fronts are more involved but once reassembled you could drive with the shafts and CVs missing. I drove back from wales in front wheel drive only . Took off the rear prop and the shafts out and she drove just fine.
bishbosh
If it is not in diff lock remember the hand brake will not work with no rear half shafts.....
vulcan bomber
If it is not in diff lock remember the hand brake will not work with no rear half shafts..... It also wont drive anywere f its not in diff lock.
Mean Green
Thanks all... sorry I did say I was tired and had not engaged brain. It is the rears and I do have alloys - so wheels need to come off. I have a very annoying clunk/ slipping type noise and vibration but can't get to the bottom of it. Have checked prop, diff and handbrake and appear fine so only thing I can think of care half shafts.
Mark
Worth investigating the state of wear of the drive flanges too
