Heater Refurbishment

Recommended Posts

Whilst waiting on bits that will allow me to fit my wiper motor and mechanism i thought id turn my attention to the heater. To be honest it doesnt look too pretty although i havent taken it apart yet. Im not fancying the idea of fitting it without knowing its a good un.

Is there any good info about how to refurb them?

Cleaning the matrix internally and externally would be a good idea too I'd say.

After that it's just a case of ensuring proper flap operation, sealing up the apertures as above, and perhaps sealing up all the joins in the heater box to make sure no air escapes into the engine bay.

Is it a worthwhile upgrade fitting a td5 heater as opposed to the older style? Reason i ask is i notice the td5 matrix has pipes that come straight out rather than having a 90 degree bend in them, or is there a negligable difference between them?

doubt you'll notice any heat difference from a Td5 or earlier heater matrix, a bigger capacity matrix would make a difference, I've fitted simonb's new heater resistor, here it speeds up the 1st speed & retains the high speed of the motor, much better heat effect in the cab than the facxtory slow speed.

The reason i ask is that ive fitted td5 wheel boxes which of course are upside down. I would imagine that this will affect the position of the motor. Im looking to fit the early type dash that i already have.
