Nissan Engine??

Recommended Posts

Many years ago I worked for a company fitting these engines into Land Rovers. Brilliant lump, great for towing with, but very very heavy.

Parts were hard to come by as the engine was never fitted into any UK Nissan. Only the importers, SMC of Bristol or Samurai in Cornwall were a reliable source, with prices that hurt.

My dad had one of these in his 90 which replaced the original 2.25 petrol. It was an excellent engine. I did hear that parts are hard to get hold of but it was so reliable that no spares were needed in the 15 years he owned the vehicle.

Exactly what I'm running. Pulls like a train indeed, gear driven injector pump and cam, unbreakable, but noisey. These donkeys originally fitted to Nissan Atlas (small lorry) in the 90's. Heaps of them here in NZ.

I had one in a 90 and it was a fantastic engine, pulled like a train even with high ratio transfer box. It was very economical as I remember at the time I was regularly driving from Devon to Glasgow and only had one fuel stop per trip, may be something to do with the 1.22 transfer box and 265 tyres. As already said parts are hard to come by in this country, but you rarely need any parts other than oil filters which are easy to get.
