markhowlett
Could any body help. I am looking to buy a Range Rover 3.5 but not sure if to get it on Carbs or EFI. I would like to start going off road with it. Regards Mark

countryman
Get a 3.9 with hotwire far!!!!! better system. Then MS for waterproofing ect!!
Spearos
To be fair either will do for going off road. EFI will give you a bit more grunt but they both have the same problem - they do not like water!!
markhowlett
I have got £1500 to buy one. Dose the EFI sound the same as the Carb engine and can you water proof the EFI engine
FridgeFreezer
Depends how comfy you are with each option - if you don't like/understand basic electrics then don't buy an EFI.
g&t
EFI adds around 30 horses to a standard 3.5 but only a few pounds of extra torque which is more important than outright power for off-roading. Also the carb equipped lump develops it at a lower rpm (2500 as opposed to 3200) enabling you to use the grunt available at lower revs.

zim
Depends how comfy you are with each option - if you don't like/understand basic electrics then don't buy an EFI. and if you really really really like spanners, then get the carb. I've had (got) both and will choose EFI every time. G

Tanuki
A friend describes a carburetttor as 'a cunning device which is designed to deliver the wrong air/fuel ratio under every possible circumstance'. I prefer to think of the carb/EFI argument as being like wristwatches: carbs are clockwork - they require regular winding, servicing and resetting if you want to be on-time every-time. EFI is like a quartz-watch: once you set the time it's resolutely accurate to within a few seconds for the next five years. --Tanuki.
