knappers
Okay, I took a couple of defenders for a test drive today... Loved them, apart from I really don't think I could live with the "driving a bus" steering. Would fitting a smaller steering wheel help substantially, or does it still steer like a bus with a smaller tiller? Si.
Jimmy Two-Jacks
I fitted a quick release wheel to my 90 that was tiny at only 14" but I found it too small so fitted a fixed 15" wheel and that makes it less bus like without being too small. Bear in mind though its a Land Rover and not a car so will handle differently. Are you looking at a 110 or 90? Cheers J2J

stuck
Si, Assuming the steering isn't defective you will get used to the "Bus" like feel. After a while "normal" car steering feels twitchy

Quagmire
Driving a bus how? With a knackered front axle and worn front bushes my 90 was like driving a boat certainly , but not a bus. New bushes all round and rebuilt axle and it is now good and precise again.
knappers
I can see I'm going to have to get my arse into a decent one as a comparison. If there's anyone on here in the Leicester area.... Si.

Changing the steering wheel will make it feel different in some respects, but it'll have no bearing on how the PAS, steering linkage, front axle and tyres affect steering. All 4x4's that use a steering box feel similar, but you get used to it very quickly once you've owned one for a few days.
