big ives
Have just fitted and wired in LED rear light clusters on my 300tdi, however the indicators are flashing to fast as if there was a lamp not working. I know the LEDs use less current but why do they flash faster? When the hazards are switched on all lights flash as normal. Is there a fix for this for example fit a resistor in the circuit? western
you either need the correct flasher unit for led lights or add a resistor into each of the lights 12v feed wires. the supplier should really have mentioned this when you bought the lights. big ives
thanks Western the supplier never said a word, have u any idea what size of resistor to fit???
western
I don't know what rating resistor you would need, Hopefully someone will give guidance, I just use standard bulbs. this is a suitable flasher unit though, if you don't want a resistor in the wiring http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/complete-led-flasher-unit-stops-fast-flashing-led-indicators.html
Simon Smith
I fitted an electronic flasher unit, but this meant I also had to rewire the warning light otherwise all 4 flashed at the same time. the standard light is simply wired between left and right circuits, and this needs to be rewired with one side to an earth point and the other fed from L and R circuit through diodes. Fitting resistors is probably easier, I don't know what value, but there's normally plenty on Ebay.
landroversforever
I would change the flasher relay for an LED specific one
Simon Smith
I would change the flasher relay for an LED specific one Yes, I must admit mine works perfectly, but you will have to modify the warning light wiring if you dont use resistors (assuming a 300tdi is the same as a 200tdi)
Landy-Novice
something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RDX-4-Pin-Flasher-Relay-for-LED-WIPAC-NAS-lamps-Land-Rover-Defender-90-110-/221061578723?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item33784bffe3
Simon Smith
That's a better one than mine, Mine doesn't know when a trailer is plugged in so I really should update it. (Ok I lied, mine doesn't work as perfectly as I thought)
madmatt
I fitted proper ballast packs avliable from durite. I didn't mess with the flasher unit etc as it would cause more hassles when towing the trailer on standard bulbs.
