EDIS VOLT

I also know the hard way ...........

On rover v8s with misfires I would plug leads off and see if a difference, then hold plug cap near plug

sometimes the spark would show so knew that cyl ok, somtimes nothing = cyl with fault

There was a mate with MS'd V8 - and it had a misfire

I did my "pull lead off and see if spark jumped trick", it did, ....all 40,000volts of it did, about a 2.5" "Jump" spark

The pain was intense, as was my squeal, mate next to me guessed my jump was a clear 10-12" and I also went grey

hand was numb up to shoulder socket, and I felt sick. I nobbled off having dropped everything on the floor where I had been standing

and went at sat in a warm corner saying "****"

I remember sitting in the corner, for some time, listening to the guffaws sniggers and "Re enactments" from "Mates" and it was a good 10 mins before

I was able to chase the worst "Mate" and give him a 'Dead Arm' being the grown up person I am :D

NEVER EVER AGAIN will I "Play" with G1 Coil Packs !

:)

One can work it out from that photo. Air breaks down at about 30 kV/cm, that gap between the plugs is at least 15 mm, so we can say at least 45 kV.

Is that the case? In the picture I can't see an earth, I would guess (but am probably completely wrong) that the coils must be centre tap earthed for that to work so the effective voltage being applied in the picture would be double that normally applied.

In fairness I know nothing about V8's or how the coils/edis are wired so am very likely to be talking out of my backside :)
