dirtyninety
As in the title, what thread bolts are used to mount mile marker h12 winches. Seems it must be an American imperial thead!
landroversforever
Is this any use? http://milemarker.com/pdf_downloads/75series_instruction.pdf Might be able to decode the numbers.
landroversforever
Attach winch to winch-mount tray by screwing 4 bolts (C-3/8 X 16 X 1 SS Hex Head Bolt) and washers (D-3/8 SS Washer) through the pre-drilled holes in bottom of winch mount tray into bottom of winch body. Tighten to 35 ft/lbs. Make sure that you have AT LEAST 6 threads going into the winch legs, but NO MORE THAN 10 threads going into winch leg. Phil Hancock
Thats 3/8"UNC. BSW should fit but as the thread profile angle is 5* different its not good practice.
dirtyninety
Cheers, thankyou very much! I couldn't see that for looking on the milemarker website!!
mikec
Oh that's saved me asking the same question
dirtydiesel
I'd be looking at helicoiling them out to something easier to find in the field like m10x1.
mikec
Mine are helicoiled anyway is that standard?
zim
I'd be looking at helicoiling them out to something easier to find in the field like m10x1.5 The aluminium housing version come helicoiled from factory 3/8 UNC as said above. Not difficult to find. G
BogMonster
Ahem. A British Imperial thread copied (like everything) by the Americans who are now the only ones to use it due to the fact the British have sold their soul to the European metric devil
mikec
Slightly off topic, but does the mm use the fairlead holes a load bearing fixings? Reason I ask is there's a reasonable gap between front of the winch and my new bumper. Are the four bottom bolts enough to hold it?
landroversforever
Only the four holes in the bottom AFAIK. Same as most low-line winches
mikec
Ah ok, I've only really had huskies before. Cheers again
BogMonster
Ah ok, I've only really had huskies before. Cheers again The Husky needs the extra fixings for support due to the fact that it weighs as much as a small moon
mikec
The Husky needs the extra fixings for support due to the fact that it weighs as much as a small moon Haha maybe so, to be honest I prefer the idea of the front bolts holding it too, might modify this bumper, belt and braces and all
zim
Mike, I bolt mine downwards. Trust me in saying they're fine like this. We've used them heavily for a few years now. G
landroversforever
They are designed to bolt feet down Mike

landroversforever
If you're not careful, you'll end up like Nige, and have a bumper that would make a suitable anchor for the worlds largest ship
mikec
Yeah, I do like to add my little "improvements"! Haha
