Chicken Drumstick
Needing a used front diff for a 1988 90. Pretty sure these are 10 spline. But what else uses 10 spline diffs? I thought all early Discos did, but the couple on eBay are both listed as 24 spline. Is there a definitive list of what vehicles and ages uses which spline diffs? Thanks. Chicken Drumstick
Cheers. So a 200Tdi should be a 10 spline (Disco) then, or is there any chance it wouldn't be? I'm on the Beds Buck boarder. Sort of between Mk and Luton. Don't mind driving to pick one up though. £45 would sound great if you have one. Should I PM you for details? jai_landrover
Don't worry about a PM Let me look tomorrow evening. I know I have a few but need to strip them from the axles. When do you need it for??
miketomcat
Late 200tdi disco are 24 spline they change mid k reg. Mike
jai_landrover
Yea most 200s are 10 but easy enough to spot from the hubs
miketomcat
Actually you can only tell between 10 and 24 spline by pulling a half shaft . Don't forget there are metric and imperial 10 spline shafts most range rover and early disco are imperial though the diffs are inter changeable. The metric shafts have a much flatter head. Snagger
If I'm not mistaken, most 200Tdi and earlier Defenders used 10 splines, as did the 200 Tdi Discoverys and era of RRCs. They should be identifiable by the hub drive flanges - if the Defender hub is the thick type with the longer plastic cone, or Discovery/RRC hub is the domed single piece hub/shaft with no plastic cone, then it's an early unit, 300 Tdis and later have thin drive flanges on the front with the short cones and on RRC/ Discovery and 90 a flattish integrated flange/shaft with no cone or the same thin flange and small cone on a 110 (but their rear diff will be incompatible anyway). That's my understanding, and bears up with the vehicles I and my friends have, anyway.
Bowie69
Late RRC 10 spline have separate, thin drive flanges, with short rubber dome, almost, if not actually, identical to the 24 spline! Pull it to find out
Snagger
That buggers my theory up, then! My RRC has thin flanges and small cone, but 24 splines. The Discovery axle I used on the 109 had the round metal dome flange/shaft ends and 12 splines...
Phil Hancock
Late RRC 10 spline have separate, thin drive flanges, with short rubber dome, almost, if not actually, identical to the 24 spline!Pull it to find out Same as late 200 disco, but as pointed out the verry late 200 was 24 spline. Bowie69
Then of course you have the disco 10-spline shafts, one piece, but narrow drive flange... which I use in my RRC as apparently they tend to break at the hub end rather than the diff(!)
