Tractorman
Hi All, need to do a cambelt on my 300tdi, its long overdue... whats the feeling on cambelt kits - my local dealer is doing full kits, Dayco belt but its Britpart pulleys and not cheap, The Glencoyne kit looks good but he claims "only good quality components" but doesn't say what, or whos they are. - any preferred kits? any to avoid? BogMonster
Used to get ours from Bearmach
cackshifter
I've had a couple of Bearmach ones with no problems. The crank pulley they do was a solid one rather than with welded on flanges, to be honest, looked a better item.
CwazyWabbit
Would agree the solid crank pulley on the bearmach kit seems better, heard a few stories of the spot welded flanges on the genuine one failing.
Tractorman
is it usual to replace the bottom pulley? its not included in a lot of kits. I know the tensioners are changed as they contain bearings but why the bottom pulley? Does it wear quicker than the others?
BogMonster
The standard bottom pulley has welded on flanges which fail as described above. Changing it is a sensible precaution; changing it for a solid Bearmach one is a much better precaution!
cackshifter
If you do change the bottom pulley, I'd do the oil seal behind. The pulley is a right PITA to get off and the seal is cheap so you might as well. There is also a big O ring that goes behind the pulley that 'stops' oil seeping along the pulley/crank gap. Confused
Can anyone suggest where the best place to buy the bearmach equipment via mail order might be?
BogMonster
We used to deal with the south-east shop who were excellent, very very helpful. Changed jobs 2 years ago and no dealings since. Not sure if they do mail order within the UK but worth asking? http://www.callupcontact.com/b/business/Bearmach_South_East/916089

I used their website to find a local distributer though and realised the place I buy most of my parts is a Bearmach distributer. They (MPB Keighley) have got the same kit on ebay (solid crank pulley and dayco belt) for £87 delivered which is a bit easier on the pocket. Thanks for the pointer, it got me where I wanted in the end!
cackshifter
Mailorder4x4 are a Bearmach tentacle I believe, so should have access to their stuff if you cannot get it there. I have used them a bit and had no problems, in fact they have been very helpful.
