wood-gee
Having had some kind gentleman break into my bonnet the other day and help himself to my battery, I've started thinking about a more secure bonnet lock. I've currently got what is basically a gate hasp with a padlock on, although after looking at paddocks etc, the 'series bonnet lock' is pretty much the same anyway. I was thinking of something a bit more like what I seem to remember on my dads old 110 when I was younger, something like this: http://i772.photobucket.com/albums/yy7/sloukes/110%20Bonnet%20Lock/bonnetlock1.jpg Does anyone know where I might get hold of one and how easy they are to mount onto a series, not had much luck so far on paddocks/craddocks? Thanks Jake
Jon White
That's an early defender one. Not saying it couldn't be fitted but it's not a nuts and bolts job. There is a standard landrover part number for the series lock, which is little more than a hasp and staple that you put a padlock through. tacr2man
Stage 1 v8 had a key operated bonnet lock as well as 110 , think is was discontinued at the time the 110 became a defender HTSH

Pollywog
I just have popped a pair of aerocatches on (lockable) worth a lookie maybe ? Those do look like a neat solution
wood-gee
Those aerocatch's seem a really nicely thought out idea. I'm thinking I might go down this route http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SILVER-RACING-STYLE-LOCKING-CAR-BONNET-PIN-PINS-SET-NEW-/300916683273?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3ALand+Rover&hash=item4610083209 as it allows locking on both sides of the bonnet, whilst allowing for a really clean solution, which would be my only criticsm of the aerocatchs (that and the price). Was worrying that the key could be at risk as those styles seem a bit 'one size fits all' but if I'm honest the same could be said for land rover door locks so hoping it'd be ok. dm7288
Is it not possible to fit a defender pull cable bonnet release on it?
wood-gee
Stupidly hadn't occured to me as i assumed they'd be rather complex! After a quick search of ebay seems not to be the case. May go down that route.
FridgeFreezer
I hate those aerocatches, they look very neat but as soon as they get mud in they are a royal pain. Oh such fun every service stop having to tease the bl**dy things open with a pair of pointy pliers
wood-gee
Another aspect I hadn't thought of! IMO they would also look a little out of place on a Land Rover. Look perfectly at home on a track car but a bit out of place on my clapped out banger.
