Blowing smoke from engine breather? Help?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, noticed today that I have quite a bit of smokey fumes coming from the breather on the top of my 200tdi engine, that sits on the left of the rocker cover. Surely this isn't normal? Thought it could maybe be a cracked gasket causing it to blow like this? It builds quite a bit of pressure when you put your hand over it.

Thanks in advance!

Ethan

It's possible piston rings gummed up / valve guide seals/ head gasket more than likely piston rings if it's a high mileler try changing oil good quality run for 200 miles or so and change again it will take a bit of time but changing oil often will help

shouldn't be any gases coming from the breather to outside, check the hoses are intact & the breather body is not cracked

my 200tdi is 18 years old with stellar miles & doesn't let gases escape from the breather into the engine bay.
