chris2010
how many hours labour should i expect to get stung cambelt kit change. water pump change radiator. genuine 300 tdi defender
pete3000
3-4hrs the radiator can be removed to do the cambelt, easier access. Some people leave it in. Once the timing cover is off for the cambelt then the water pump is easy enough. I.e all the jobs are linked and contribute a bit to the total. If you were just after the water pump then not such a big job, just a bit of a fiddle around the timing cover and idler Get a metal P gasket set for your new water pump, it's a useful fit and forget, instead of the red porous version. sighnbox
Paid £150 for mine to be done all in
Souster
£225 for mine on my 300tdi. It would have been £150 all in if i didnt have to have the uprated pulleys and tensioners that are now recommended for the 300tdi. Hope this helps
Ally V8
All OK unless the long bolts into the cylinder block snap off,you may then need to pay for a couple more hours labour to drill out and fit thread inserts. There is no need at all to remove the radiator, doing so would only complicate the job, leading to more possible problems, there is plenty of room with it in place. ejparrott
Last time I did my 88 we struggled with broken bolts, in the end took two of us about 10 hours to sort, an we had to go right back to the block and then reseal the timing case

I've got a scrap 300 rad outside my house..... Rushing to change an injector pump and made a hole in it.... Worst bit is it wasnt a year old.... For the intercooler and oil cooler pipes and a couple of bolts, take thenrad out.
Ally V8
No,if you tend to be rushing stick a bit of plywood in front of the matrix,or just slow down - why would you rush a job like that ?
pete3000
2 worst parts of cambelt change IMHO, undoing the LHD viscous fan nut if it's "a bit tight". and the cranshaft pulley (undoing the bolt, drawing it off then having to retorque it).
