GBMUD
Try twatting the side of the tapered hole, ie. from the rear of the axle, while prying at the same time. This deforms the hole and forces the taper out. Chris
Les Henson
Usually belting the ball joint housing pops it out. Must be damned tight if it won't budge. Try leaving the nut undone a small amount and go for a drive. Les.

Yes it probably won't let go if its still under load. jack nose of diff untill you find a neutrally loaded position. Bill.
Orgasmic Farmer
Took a very big hammer and a lot of anger therapy to get mine to let go. HIT IT................ it will give!

Lewis
When we changed my rear axle i had a mate stand on the axle on either side of the ball-joint while i beat the axle where the taper mounts repeatedly with a large sledge hammer. Worked nicely on both the disco and the 90 This only works if you havnt got a tub fitted Lewis Coat, hat, door swinging in the breeze
