Orgasmic Farmer
Does anyone know whether the 300 tdi Discovery every came with factory cruise control? And if so has anyone ever retro fitted it to a 300 tdi defender? Just musing on a cold Sunday afternoon
western
Don't know about 300tdi's but Retroanaconda has this thread http://forums.lr4x4.com/index.php?showtopic=88325&hl=
Arjan
Yes - my 300 Tdi auto had LR Cruise Control. But..... It was German Spec so not sure about UK models. Works very well. Don't think that, like the Disco II, the wiring etc. is there already.
dave88sw
yeah, plenty of 300 discos had cruise, but very few still work, not many people understand how they work. It wouldn't be too hard to retrofit, fair bit of wiring though. You'd also need something to send a speed signal. The 300 disco signal comes from the instrument pack itself according to the land rover troubleshooting manual.
Orgasmic Farmer
Running TD5 speedo with electric sender so speed signal "could" be taken care of. But probably easier to go after market (Waeco)
Retroanaconda
As per Ralph's link that's what I used for a speed signal. The aftermarket one I have works very well, they do vacuum or electric ones - mine's the latter which is probably simpler in that there is no pipework modification required, just a bit of bracketry etc. If the 300Tdi Disco unit is a self-contained ECU then I am sure it could be adapted, it's not exactly a complicated vehicle electrically. I think they use vacuum though? It would also enable you to use all the proper throttle lever brackets etc. for the top of the injection pump. Orgasmic Farmer
I have only really seen the cruise on 300 era discos when fitted to the V8 models. They were certainly vacuum operated and had issues with perished hoses. I think the set up you have looks to be the way to go. Will keep and eye on Ebay
