Freelander seats in Defender 90

Been working through the mechanical's and external esthetics now time to sort out the interior.

My seat cover is grey vinyl and in good nick but the  reclining mechanism/tilt is missing not that I would use it much. The passenger side is same material but split on back and base.

As I have 4 inward facing seats in the back in Techno cloth in the rear.

My first thought was get a replacement back for drivers side (second hand ideally) and cover both seats in Techno cloth to match the rear.

Then my son and wife both suggested I would be better getting new bucket seats, good idea but costly if you include 4 point harnesses too. Plus cheap ones are not that comfortable, had them in my Escort many years ago not much padding on the base and not built for anyone with a large posterior (not that I have that problem).

My other thought, after trawling through EBay was "can I fit Freelander front seats" ? few decent pairs going cheaply ? Well cheaper than refurbishing my existing seats anyway.

This is where my question comes in has anyone ever fitted Freelander front seats in a 90 or 110 ? If so would they bolt straight in or need modifications to the runner/frame. The other point is are they much wider ie would they fit ?

I fitted a couple of Rangerover seats in my old SIII V8 many moons ago and seem to remember having to mod the frames to install them. That's when I had a mig welder, garage and time to mess about with it.

Anyway Id appreciate any feedback or suggestions either on fitting the Freelander seats or suggestions as to the best of the 3 options.

Cheers Ian

I have freelander seats in my ibex the only way you could fit them in a defender is to remove or heavily modify the seat box. Fridge is correct the runners are at different heights and extremely difficult to alter. However I do have disco 1 seats in our 90 and they were relatively easy to make fit.

I have RRC seats in the front of the 110 and think they are great. Not so easy to find cheaply now though!

(No use for a 90 but I have the freelander 1 back row fitted in the rear - much comfier than the originals and, as they are deeper and i set them 4 inches further back, give loads more leg room)

I fitted a set from an Audi A4 Quattro , they have height adjustment as well as lumbar adjustment etc , had to make two fixings into seatbox , but because they lift on the height adjustment I can still access both the toolbox and battery box, not quite enough to get the battery out  but certainly workable.

Best bit - they were free

The Rang Rover seats would have been the best none std option based on all your advice, having had them in my old series 3 V8 I agree about the comfort. However, I got an offer yesterday of some std Defender seats in Techno which will match my rear seats , so that's looking like my best option at the moment. Hassle free fitting bolt straight in and the whole interior seating matches (starting to sound like the wife, god forbid).

Thanks for all the advice guy's much appreciated, If buying the std seats falls through, then I will look at the Range Rover option.
