  1. More like a bearing come to think of it. The noise developed over a 500 mile period so could be that. Cheers for the thought.
  2. Moved the 110 today as the transmission is all bolted back on and the seatboxes are in. No tunnel on so the faint click click that used to be in first is now a very loud clack clack clack clack. Other gears are OK Should I worry do you think ?.....
  3. You could save more by changing up from first earlier and doing a couple of hundred revs less in all the other gears, anticipate the traffic as if you had very very poor brakes and save a lot more. Try this for a week and see how much you save
  4. My 2.8td zoo zoo is in an Isuzu so not an accurate report but... it flys, it's reliable, and it does 30+mpg just knocking about. Putting it in a landy ups the gearing and as long as you don't abuse it by driving at 80mph all day then it will be frugal on fuel. Mine is the jap spec one with no cambelt to worry about, it's done 240000 kilometers and uses no oil, it starts with half a turn all winter long, it clears its throat on start up with a puff of black smoke but then only smokes if you abuse it (I can see any smoke via a vertical exhaust stack) I pull a twin axle car trailer and usually get 30mpg on the motorway at 55mph Derestrict the exhaust and inlet for power and economy, I drive normaly on half throttle and it pulls like a train. (I dont work for Isuzu BTW ) I'm told they are good for 200,000+ miles and I can believe it, I've had mine two years and it's not been any trouble
  5. Coming up to Welshpool from the south yes. Had a good run 'till then just the one divertion 'cause a river burst over onto a one way system and I had to go round, not as much water as going south in the morning but no police out then to spoil things by shutting the roads or guiding traffic through I believe the road from Welshpool to Oswestry was closed today as well, that will be the 'puddle' that stopped me dead from fiftyish mph at about 8.30 on Sunday morning then
  6. I too am looking at doing this and would be interested in anyone's projects. Was thinking of using a bar hinged on the chassis about 18" in and having it up to the bumper when not in use and then lowered down . Would have to be an 'A' frame device now that I think about it, fixed at two points. Need to think about that one Go 2.8 TD zoo zoo....I've just come back from S.Wales towing a 1.3ton caravan with foot to the floor all the way. No motorways, 90% single carrigeway roads up through mid Wales, 195 miles in 4hrs 55mins with a stop for fuel and a bite. Also held up by flooded roads and diverted twice, so not bad to average over 40mph. Doing 50 to 70 wherever I could blowing black smoke at times and cooked the brakes once so was quite pleased this morning when I filled up and she averaged 25mpg on the return journey and 31 going down fast with just the truck. Admitedly the engine is in an Isuzu pick up but with a higher geared landy with say 1.22 T/B then it would be very economical. Let us know how you go on with the tow bar
  7. What a trip Waiting my turn to get through as a 4x4 pushes a bow wave when it comes out at the shallow end A lot of water fell on mid Wales, roads flooded everywhere and the Land Rover was behind me so no photos
  8. Took me 4 hours to get down there (195 miles) and the zoo zoo did 35 mpg. (£29 +) I ran into a flood at 60mph on the way and it stopped me dead, water over the cab and loads of steam, just spotted it and hit the brakes but too late, thought I'd killed it and bent something. It was about two feet deep in the middle but I managed to plough through in low with the motor reving, woke me up though ! Road was clear of traffic and I enjoyed the drive. Saw some lovely Landys coming north, must have been something on. Coming back I had to pass a few slow drivers and cooked the brakes coming over the top and dropping into Newtown, bit of a scarey moment on one of the bad bends Road flooded at Welshpool (washed the underneath of the caravan) and the road up to Oswestry was closed so had to divert through Shrewsbury and up the A49. That road was empty and I pushed on at 55 to 70 wherever I could. Going to fill up tomorrow and check the fuel on the return, probably not a lot to the gallon judging by the amount of black smoke I was pumping out of the exhaust stack Saw some nice Land Rovers coming back as well, if that was you then Hi
  9. If you spot me in my zoo zoo give us a flash (the Landy is still broke). Going down to Saundersfoot to pick up a caravan so all day job so hope the weather isn't too bad. Going down through Wrexham, Oswestry, Buith wells, Camarthen, etc as quick as possible so leaving about 7am with a full tank of gas and no fuel gauge
  10. Just fired her up today and tried it, I've still got forward for high and back for low, it's a very nice action though and clicks in loverly. The linkage must be on wrong, I'll get a picture Monday and see if it's right or not.
  11. Is the lever on a series box the opposite way round or is the linkage different to give forward for high.?
  12. The t/b I took out of my V8 defender (1.44) had the high and low positions back to front. My new box has them the correct way round according to the knob markings, back for high and forward for low. Anyone know why the old box was back to front seeing as the linkage is the same.
  13. Taking it up to 2000 revs in each gear the speed will be APROX ! to nearest mph 1st 12 2nd 21 3rd 32 4th 45 5th 57 Thats what I've worked my V8 defender at with santana box and disco 1.22 T/B so yours will be somewhere near that.
  14. Wires are a mess after swapping transfer box, need to find reverse lamps wire (thanks) and diff lock (thanks again). Can get it sorted now before the floors go in.
  15. I have a green wire with a black trace which is loose in the gearbox area, any one any idea where it goes please. It's a 1984 110 V8
  16. Need to add a gas tank to my 110 V8. Going to move the original tank from behind the seats and fit it on brackets to the chassis. Also going to add another tank to the nearside, also bracketed to the chassis. The tanks will not be visible when fitted and will be tucked under the arches of the 110. I feel that this is safer than having tanks inside the vehicle esspecially as the wife likes a ciggy now and then Question is, what is the valve called that I need to use so as to shut off the gas electrically and also non return all in one. This is so as I can use one tank at a time if nessesary. And will it work or am I wasting my time
  17. Increase the size of the inlet pipe to the filter and feed it with clean, cold air. Derestrict the exhaust as above by using one straight thru box and no cat but keep pipe size the same. This will increase power by introducing cold dense air in and allowing an unrestricted path out. Worked for me and fuel consumption is better.
  18. As above, if you drink any alcohol at all then no driving.
  19. Assuming that the break is uneven, then you could strap it together with a couple of big hose clips joined together. That would hold the two pieces tight together and should hold.
  20. My mate has a pair from a Pug 205 TD in his 90, they required a couple of extra holes drilling and are very nice.
  21. They have tubes in but I want to fit tubeless tyres.....why ? Because I bought the wheels with a friend and he wants the tyres , I'm having the wheels. It's the only way I could afford them.
  22. Did notice some stampings when I wiped them over, will have a look tomorrow when I go to cut the grass from around the 110,............. it's still offroad
  23. Are these wheels tubed or tubeless or both. I've got a set of five and want to fit my tubeless tyres to them. What I need to know is whether the rims will take tubeless tyres. Ta
  24. Twas to stop me falling through and make it safer to walk on top of the landy (old person) Why would it wreck the roof rack ? It's lighter than plywood and would keep the heat out in the summer, it would also stop birds landing on it in summer as they would burn their little feet
