  1. It certainly will Peaklander . So at 3000rpm in 4th she is going 50 mph checked that with gps as well. Had a look at my receipt from Ashcrofts I didn’t have the higher 5th gear fitting in the box . Also transfer box fitted is a 22D so it says on the case and as far as axles go I haven’t changed them it’s a Salisbury on the rear and a rover on front . What’s best tachometer wise laser or contact ?
  2. Wright will do the 3000rpm in 4th test on the way home and report back . Will order one of those cheap hand held tachometer of Ebay later so I can check that. Do you think t would be better for me to remove the boost ring and set the pump back to the settings it had originally ? I think it would be wise too.
  3. Chap I brought it off used it to go shooting with his friends, he didn’t use it for anything else. Rev counter is a vdo unit goes upto 6000rpm could I have the switches wrong on the rear ? But humour me on this as I’m still learning, even if the gearing wrong and it won’t physically go any faster in 5th shouldn’t the engine still rev above 3000rpm upto 3800rpm when you put your foot to the floor?
  4. Looked on Ashcroft site only list one but you can have a higher 5th gear which I didn’t, I think they supply the L suffix as standard . Did the speed test over mier heath again she got to 60 lovely 2800rpm EGT 450/500 but she won’t physically Rev anymore than 3000rpm in5th even with my foot to the floor which she will in every other gear , is this how it should be?
  5. From the photos it looks okay, I think you’ve done okay but you’ve got a lot of work ahead of you . And I’ll second what Ross says start a thread up , we all like e rebuild thread . cheers Ian
  6. Right had the gps speedo on my phone all the way home was spot on all the time . Tried the Rev experiment in 3rd got her to about 3800/3900 doing 45mph then I backed off , in 4th got her to about 3600/3700 doing about 60 mph . Didn’t go down the A50 tonight and try pushing her weather not too good, we’d had a bit off snow but it had froze car park was like a skating rink and just as I walked in the house it started snowing, was like a blizzard .
  7. Cheers found an app, lm at work at the minute so doing this on the sly . It’s an r380 stumpy that I had from Ashcrofts but I have got a td5 speedo fitted . Just a thought forgot about this till tonight I fitted one of them boost rings to try when I tried the boost pin it’s supposed to advance the dynamic pump timing to allow fuel more time to burn, do you think that might cause problems now I’ve started playing with the pump ?
  8. Standard defender transfer box 1.41 and 235/85 r16 tyres , no haven’t checked against gps will dig the wife’s old sat bag out and use that , unless anyone knows of an app for the iPhone that will do it.
  9. I think that’s where my problem might be , out of gear she will rev to 3850/4000 but when traveling she won’t rev over 3000/3250 . If I’m reading my manual correctly she should do 4250 as standard .
  10. I think that I need to take the adjustments I’ve made back to stock and then adjust the max power screw and then adjust them again after . What’s the best way to remove the sleeve off the max power screw ? Undo the lock nut and remove the fitting the take the collar off or has someone got a better way . cheers Ian
  11. Wow , very interesting read but very technical I don’t know wether I’d want to start messing around in my injection pump like that. But shows what can be achieved, but may be to highly tuned for a daily driver but will keep an eye on that thread some very interesting post will go back and read it again a few times to digest it properly. Have just fitted an electric lift pump , same one as Richard and seems to be working fine . The fuel pin is set to the widest setting, haven’t really tried it on any other . What should be the highest she should rev to when in gear and travelling?
  12. I’ve never actually pushed her to see how fast she’d go before, but even before the new chra she struggled over 60 which is disappointing. She gets to 70 fine ,I would even say easily like I said above she sat at 70 for about 5/10 Miles with no problem EGT’s at 550/600 . It’s like there’s a restrictor fitted to stop it going above that . Do you think turning the max power screw will up the top speed ?
  13. Did you get sorted? If not , the 2 pipes are different try britcar http://www.brit-car.co.uk/ they’ve got both in stock .
  14. Hi all , right did the slow acceleration test after many attempts, every time I tried a car would appear behind me and they don’t hang around on these country roads but managed to see boost is kicking in between 1500 and 1800 , the gauges aren’t next to each other so it’s hard to be exact. Didn’t manage to catch the peak but will try again tomorrow, it’s hard to keep watching 2 gauges and driving at the same time. On to Red90’s question took her down the A50 on the way home tonight, got her to 70mph but wouldn’t go any more EGT’s were steady at 550/600 ,revs 3000 stayed like that for between 5/10 Miles , but if a tried to accelerate past 70 she wouldn’t go any faster but EGT’s shot up to 700c .
  15. I’ve got a tec arc 360amp single phase, I’m well happy with it have used it on 2 chassis now no problem, also done quite a few other projects with it no problem . We use butters sets at work 3 phase which are good sets .
  16. The part numbers from before the 200tdi are RTC4826 and RTC4825 they shouldn’t be to expensive to order the 3 . Also check the pipes they might be leaking some where.
  17. If they are off a 200tdi or newer (I think) the part numbers are QYX100280 AND RTC4825 but also check the pipes were they are attached to the reservoir they are held on by jubilee clips they might need tightening . also check the bleed nipple on the top of the box that might not of been tightened up properly after they bled it .
  18. Ah got it now the lever the throttle cable attaches to . The bit that through me was the In bit , thought Red90 meant inside the pump . Will check that tomorrow but I don't think it will be , can I move it wright to the end of it's adjustment ?
  19. Sorry I don't know what you mean the max stop in the pump , still new to this game . Before I did the tweaks and fitted the new chra it got to 60 ok then to 70 took a bit of effort . will take her for a run down the A50 tomorrow see what she can do . She does feel to have a lot more go now, have had her to 65 on a country road but then needed to slow down.
  20. Were they brand new ? or by spares place do you mean a breakers .They're just standard rubber O rings don't know what size , what engine were they off a 200tdi ? also check they've been tightened up enough .
  21. Nice to hear you got it sorted . I think you may have ordered the wrong swivel kit that's why the parts didn't fit , there are 3 available I think for different chassis numbers as listed in the link below , that's presuming that the axle hasn't been changed at some point. http://www.paddockspares.com/land-rover-parts-kits/swivel-kits/defender.html cheers Ian
  22. Yes thermocouple is bang in the middle of the exhaust manifold were all 4 outlets join before going into the turbo . this could get scary going faster than it does in a defender lol . Do you mean setting the throttle cable by , engine off someone in drivers seat accelerator pedal to the floor then taking all the slack out of the cable ?
  23. No washers there that I know to , there should be O rings on the end of the pipe fittings . Did you use genuine Land rover pipes or did you have them made up ? cheers Ian
  24. Cheers western , thought I'd check as that's not one of the places you want a bolt shearing off .
  25. Hi, I got a part number out of my parts manual for the 8 bolts holding the 2 halves of the Diff together in the transfer box of BH110121L , can someone please confirm this is correct ? As this is also the same part number for bolting things to the chassis and other uses , I'm asking as I would have thought that they might have been a higher tensile than the run of the mill bolts . cheers Ian
