  1. Fridge..... Please move if required. Front drive shafts off the td4 2001. Both have been replaced due to the abs ring with corrosion etc, but would be ideal for anybody not wanting abs on an offroading freddy ! also fit early V6, can dig out the part numbers for anybody interested, beer tokens are fine NAth
  2. Hi all, Decided to change the PCV filter on the freelander yesterday, glad I did because it was shocking ! and in doing so i have cracked one of the little black T piece's in the diesel return pipe the ones that have the little braided pipes either side? and and held in the top of the injectors I think with a silver circlip. I need a part number asap please as the wife needs the car next week, or anybody know where i can get one from please? thanks in advance nath
  3. I should be getting my new disco 4 commercial on the 20th of this Month, really looking forward to it to be honest. I have done alot of home work and read alot of info on disco3 owners forum. They have a disco 4 section with loads of great info. MPG is a hot topic with many different views as to what is achieveable based on how you drive. most average 22-27mpg straight off the line. Many improve with a few miles under them and after a service pack update on the first service. One chap uses V diesel and 90% motorway miles use and returns 31mpg plus. Only on the V diesel with a 17% increase over normal diesel? As for the interior standing up to abuse and commercial use, you only have to look on ebay for second hand disco's and the condition seems to be really good and still bring very strong money? As for the boot floor trim, you can have a sliding floor fitted to bring and goods over the rear hinge. A mate has one and its brilliant, Just £700+ vat from landrover? If your really going to use it commercially, LR and other users suggest using the standard alloys only as the larger ones are too weak for regular heavy loads ? Hope it helps, ask me in a month when i've probably added 5k miles on mine? thanks nathan
  4. It seems the crazy fuel economy has hit once again. 2001 TD4 auto, originally full tank = 361 miles all motorway @ 70 bar 20miles on the country lanes. Not really happy so EGR blanked off and air intake manifold off cleaned and new seals, can of redex and air cleaner throught it an a plug and play fuel rail chip and it went straight up to 450miles plus? NOW down to 320 miles with the last tank? any other possibilities other than a box of matches or change the car? Nath
  5. Hi Gordon, The highest you can probably get with full hydro steering on a LR axles is to use a LHD swivel with the steering arm already on, this allow the steering to be pretty level along the case, maybe jusy above the front outer diff case. Ask saley for a picture as this is what he's running? hope it helpe, have a great chistmas, nath
  6. well blow me down with a feather, my freelander has one of these heaters too ! I've had it for over a year, probably didn't know I had one because it doesn't seem to work lol,. So I have the part number for a new sensor just in case i need one, I just need to check the fuse......any pointers to the correct fuse would be appreciated and then buy a controller for manual operations, any further info out there gents? thanks nathan
  7. I appreciate what your saying, and probably true but it can also be started with wood burning at the bottom of the cylinder too. Type in waste oil burner on you-tube there are loads on there some people heating there whole houses on larger versions ZIM, when I get 5 mins i#ll email you the spec's and drawings, Forgot to mention it only cost £20 to build as i had many of the parts lying about
  8. In order to beat the cold I've made a waste oil burner from parts I had down the farm, I sourced the design from the net and made it out of a small calor gas bottle. I did have my reservations at the start but once lit with a drop of petrol or wood burning at the bottom, the oil drops onto a central hot plate and with the closed draw of warm air the heater very very quickly gets hot. i used it at the weekend and for 4 hrs heat i used approx 2 1/2 litres of old oil from my disco The oil is drip fed onto a cetral hot plate in a metal sandwich made out of an old thick cooking pan. The bottom of the pan is full of cheap fire bricks crushed up to retain the heat. I hava an inline drip feed at the bottom of the old paint can, and the oil is pre-heated round the flue, and the warm air is draw from around the flue with the oil drip inside. For it to work perfectly the door must seal really well, with the door closed it actually raws like a turbine Just to ensure it did blow up etc I did trial it outside first. adjusting the oil feed to suit, chucks out loads of heat, actually had the gas bottle glowing at teh weekend, cherry red ! couple of pic's
  9. Just goes to show the power of the information on a forum. Just recently noticed the fuel consumption of my wifes freelander td4 auto was carp! 372 miles to a full tank. Mixed driving of school runs and one 170 mile motorway trip. Having read all the great info on this subject I have just fitted a EGR bypass kit,and a diesel tuning chip from e-blag. Egr first with all the gunk cleaner out from the air intake etc. It was absolutely filthy !! some areas had over 10mm of oil and gunk blocking up the intake !(2001 td4 with only 76k miles!)all taken off and cleaned in a parrafin tank etc. All put back together and taken for a blast, difference was fantastic ! ( Once all the black smoke had stopped )The engine revs alot more freely and picks up so much better ! Then I added the piggy back chip and that made another noticeable difference ! Just 190 miles of the same type of driving for £20 !! My wallet is much happier and I actually quite like driving her/ my car now !! Thanks for all the info Nath
  10. Just had the same problem on my 2001 td4 auto, at revs the steering is no problem but at low speeds it was really naff and no good for the better half. Usual checks:the fluid, filter and then pipes for any collapsed internal walls, still no difference. In the end I had new pump fitted and its really superb. Always worth checking though nath
  11. Just bought one of these phones from ebay and its come completly unlocked , The only issue i have is the Blue tooth disabled bit anybody managed to get past this point? thanks nath
  12. As per the title it appears that Carl Hurst has gone M I A (Missing in action) as im sure that nothing sinister has happened, he is still not taking any calls or replying to any e-mails,calls etc. Carl if you read this it is in your interests to get in touch !
  13. come on where are you buying your blank wheels please
  14. i have tried a few different types and do have some heatshrink with terminal past or epoxy glue on the inside, for 11kv terms etc, the only real problem is that they are a PITA to remove, if you interested i could send a small anmount for you to try? once shrumk down you could always try and pinch together the end using apair of pliers till it sets? Alternatively crimp your lug ends on and heatshrink over all bar the actual hole and then cover with standard rubber boot with electrical grease? it will stop most of the carp getting in there? just a thought? nath
  15. well im back !! I now have 17" travel( 51" long unladen) coilovers x4 and my transfer box from the ukraine. I have just spent today taking the engine and auto box out of the supra, and removing the rear prop etc and all the wires !!! Due to the amount of wires does anybody know if your can mega spurt a straight six lump? it just might save me some time with adapting the loom? The only down side is the auto box has some electronic control for the overdrive etc. First time out with the tape measure and the engine and box complete is only 62 inches long which should fit nicely facing rearward. i'll post some pictures shortly, i'm oalso after some round engine mounts to make new captive mounts for the engine and box, any ideas out there/ thanks in advance, nath
  16. 17. I have thanked chris for the excellent effort in very kindly bringing up those tyres for me !!! I did have some beer for him at the last event but in true northerner style we all went for a bite to eat about 6 ish and staggered out of the pub close to 2 in the morning. Didn't really have an opportunity( sober opportunity) to thank Chris, that night. The beer is on ice for the next event without fail. I will have to bring extra for the lads in the white 90 for the safety line,.......saved me from a swim Thanks chaps !! massive thank you once again, nath

  22. hi soren, thanks for the fantastic link, the mind boggles at teh questions i could ask, what coil springs? what has he done with the gearbox, who's are the hight steer arms and thedisc conversion? he seems to have changed his mind on the disc set up ? I have sent you a PM, if you coul pass on my e-mail address please i would be greatfull !! thanks again, nath
  23. well not that much progress but I have made a start. As expected the engine needs rebuild but i was after more power so i'm currently searching throught the tinter web for engine/ box combinations to use with/ mate to the the existing torque tubes. Any way, all steam cleaned, engine out and i've started to de clutter all the chassis, bumper, fuel tank, exhaust, radiator side locker etc, wiring. I must point out that mercedes did a fantastic job of building these trucks. The bolt on out riggers are like the day they were made with 2x 17mm spanners they were off, as were most of the nuts and bolts, very easy to undo for such an old vehicle !! The chassis had a huge welded on tow bar and drop plate and the the rear overhang needed to go too so I since I have decided on the winches, I performed what the french term 'LE BOB@ on the back. picture below is the cut mark, I will post a pictue when its better light to show you just how much has come off. 2 cuts and the lump of steel was on the floor. Its that heavy i can only just drag it around on the floor !! First picture is before, the second is the cut line and i'll poste the result tomorrow, the tyres are also going to be about 40-44" the tyres in the photo area 10.5 x 20 for comparison.
  24. well its been alittle while but I have had to write to Ma Benz germany to prove the age of the 404. The DVLA required this to provide an age related plate!?!?!?!? After approximately 11 e-mails and 3 phone callsover 4 months i received a response today.................1959 Now reading between the DVLA lines that makes this truck tax exempt and mot exempt ? I only have to provide an appropriate vehicle shape for recognition. and thats it. when i want it on the road i have to take it to a garage for a safety check and then i'll receive my tax free disc etc? so with a blank canvas what should i build???? nath
