  1. That's correct, you can fit upto 3 different heads on it or three of the same with different tooling in, both travel axis seem to have a lot of scope, much more than my AEW Viceroy universal mill Regards Stephen
  2. Perfectly acceptable for a rough A#se like you.......lol I at least try to be a craftsman..... Regards Stephen
  3. I've got a 12" one coming anything bigger just gets stupidly expensive, the 12" won't be big enough but by the time I've made an adaptor to fit it it will do the job nicely, some 20mm plate me thinks Regards Stephen
  4. Thanks for all the suggestions, however I'm changing tack What does this tell you ? tells me im not happy, my adaptor will work but it looks s##t, I'm in agreeance that socket caps will ultimately work better and for that I need it to be solid I'm not making a proper casting, just a blank I can machine, to assist with this I'm awaiting delivery of a largish rotary table, so I can do the machining with the bridgeport mill, the monstrosity I've made will be a good template to work from Regards Stephen
  5. So bridgeport cross slide sorted, very fiddly I must say but sorted all the same new ball bearings fitted mill working great again Regards Stephen
  6. You generally don't need to with a 3 jaw chuck especially if the part your machining can be done in one operation however, if your needing a high degree of accuracy and the part needs to come out to machine the other end then you need to use a four jaw chuck and dial it in with a dti 4 jaw takes longer to set up but if you make it your go to, its surprising how quick you can do it with a bit of practice, anything critical I do in the 4 jaw You have followed my mog thread so you will know shape is not an issue, you will only be limited by what your chucks can physically hold, immense satisfaction on a completed part and a few months down the line you will wonder how you managed without one Have fun regards Stephen
  7. I'm going to make the bolts and see how it feels, they don't need to be silly tight as they are threading into an aluminium block, furthermore they will not be able to undo as the gearbox flange will be over the top of the heads Regards Stephen
  8. +1 for make it custom Regards Stephen
  9. I would if it was solid all the way through, but it isnt, will see now I get on, have not abandoned the cast idea yet Regards Stephen
  10. Machined down a 12mm countersunk bolt, this one is too short so will have to get some longer ones I can thread Turned down the diameter of the head and also took 1mm off the face I think that should do Regards Stephen
  11. Yes.....so if you would all like to keep your spell books handy....... Regards Stephen
  12. No, also its from my 200tdi, I had a wee bit of a moment at seven sisters compounded by the fact I had not wired up the temp gauge, but now it's done If you've read my mog axle thread you will discover I have an abject fear of electrickery.... Regards Stephen
  13. My electrical prowess knows no bounds, temp gauge now working huh, 1uz a walk in the park.....lol regards Stephen
  14. Should probably start thinking about bench running this engine.... Have actually not done this before so any advice really welcome Regards Stephen
  15. Please don't think less of me ..........lol Never ever been on my radar, but every day is a school day and it's nice to get some surprises now and then Regards Stephen
  16. It is one of the debates on forums dealing with Bridgeport mills, probably other machines as well It is supposed to be a fantastic upgrade Regards Stephen
  17. From what I've found up to now your right, thankfully this is already mine and the good news only £11 for a hundred new balls to get it functioning again Regards Stephen
  18. So cross screw on my new to me milling machine stopped working, so stripped it out, whilst I was doing this I noticed a few ball bearings kicking about, hmm must have a bearing collapsed No, the balls were out of cross screw nut... I now know they are called ball screws, never seen and never heard of them The balls run around that tube will be fiddly to go back Ordered some new balls, so will see how I get on regards Stephen
  19. From what I've seen your no slouch either... Regards Stephen
  20. Adaptor more or less finished, excess weld milled off Starter motor recess milled out All holes for 1uz side milled through, a couple are very close or through an edge but there is sufficient to countersink to, sent for a die as will need to make countersink bolts, will also reduce head diameter a wee bit so I don't have to go too wide with a countersink bit I may carry on and cast a piece as don't know if I'm totally happy with this effort Regards Stephen
  21. Wound the wire onto the spool gun spool and now fully Welded, waiting for it to cool so I can start machining Regards Stephen
  22. So I think I'm winning, had a rake around in my metal stores ( read scrap ) and found some 50 x 8 aluminium flat bar Cut it Rolled it Tried for size clamped it Tacked it and started welding Unfortunately ran out of spool wire, I have some on a bigger reel, might have to wind some on I think this will look neater when finished, I will be milling the excess weld off to keep it all square I'm also going to go with @steve b's suggestion and use countersunk bolts, they should tie in nicely Regards Stephen
  23. fail, faIL FAIL.... GOD DAMN I DONT DO FAIL........lol Regards Stephen
  24. In preparation just in case, some steel rolled up to form a mould regards Stephen
