  1. So as the evolution progresses on my series, the next step is curing my bulkhead troubles. My series bulkhead is cracked in various places (Thanks to our really smooth roads and too many offroad forays) and i have had enough of patching it! So i may be getting a late 200tdi defender bulkhead in very good nik (purists run away! ) complete with all the gubbins attached and grafting it to the series. Now fitting defender inner arches with series front wings will make up for some space in the engine bay and makes for a neater installation (bit crammed at the moment). Now have any of you fitted def inner arches to a series chassis/wings, any pics or links?? Any pitfalls?? Grem
  2. Covert the lt230 to 2wd operation, it can be done in several ways, including an off the shelf kit from ashcrofts. I do not reccoment any series box to go with any of the 2 engines, unless you drive like you have a 2 stroke 250cc engine........... grem
  3. I have gone trough this, the 200 will eventually wreck the g/box, if the gears dont break the bearings will eventually give up. You have to drive it as if you drove on eggs, if you know what i mean. I went to an lt77 after several boxes later. The v8 will do the same eventually, series boxes where not designed to take that power unless driven gently, then they tend to survive. Drive it like you stole it and it will break! Grem
  4. Look at it in another way, how much fuel can you afford! Grem
  5. I belive the carrier is the same its the spiders that have a different spline count. Yes arb do a locker for them but i belive you need special side gears to go with it. Not sure, i will let the others verify this. Grem
  6. Just change the crown wheel and pinion as shafts have different splines, ratios are 5.3 i belive. Grem
  7. It should fit if you have a standard engine, yes the prop will have to be shorter. I was refering to the uj at the shaft but it seems you can assume correctly that the axle you found should have cv's due to the gearbox. CV's are the same as stage 1 v8's. Grem
  8. It will sort out the diff and maybe the shafts but not the UJ's, they become the weak link, break one and you mangle the shafts anyway. Plus you loose ground clearance. Grem
  9. That falls in the category of a scary steering!! What jon rightly pointed out.... change the u bolts, and tilt that diff and you should be fine.
  10. The one i found was for a 110 axle, but its reletively the same process, or similar. Its in the tech section on this board. Grem
  11. Yep Malta, I have the mapping for the whole island for a garmin nuvi, but i have no idea how to make everything work on the laptop! Grem
  12. Toshiba with Intel Celeron 433 MHz running win2k..........64mb ram........ Grem
  13. Hi All, what do i need to do to turn an old laptop into a gps unit?? besides the gps reciever i know i need software, what software?? any freebees?? Maps?? Any information will be welcome as i am walking in dark and dont have a clue what i should look for or do. Thanks Grem
  14. You mean offset or spacers?? Wheel offset does not effect the caliper as the monting face of the wheel is still at the hub, i you do it the way i did rangie calipers should fit with out problems, its according to what disc offset you use. If you use a lower hat area and rover calipers you will defenitly need spacers, or thats what i found out. Fronts on a rangie or any rover are 4 pot calipers while the rears are 2 pot, so physically the fronts are always larger. Discs at the rear is a bolt on job to be tackled soon. Being in the US i think you might be better off searching for another caliper other than a rover! Grem
  15. Luwts, from long stick to short stick you need to dismantle both boxes as the selector rod is different i belive, its not a matter of just swapping the gearlevers, i did it with an r380 and it was a nightmare getting the right bits. Ah and one bit of advise from a fellow maltese, do not have the flange made locally, many so called engineers will make a mess and you will regret it in the long run. Put a wanted ad on these forums maybe one turns up. If you want i have the tech drawings for a flange. Grem
  16. Are they off a another 90 and galvanised or are they a series part?? As i think the tubs are not exactly the same, add to that its a land rover, nothing fits the same on any 2 vehicles. I think its time for a big hammer or grinder....... Grem
  17. Point 1 - yes, point 2 - yes The rest is a choice, discs and calipers, tonk can answer better as his brackets are simpler so they might suit your quest better. What i can tell you from my experiance is that a flat bracket will work with a lower hat area for the disc and smaller calipers or sliding calipers, using rover calipers will need 1" spacers at the hub/wheel. Grem
  18. It can be made to work, but it will involve a lot of head scratching and special parts made, as tonk said there are lots of problems. If your aim is discs then there is a tread regarding the matter. Grem
  19. I still run the series master (single) and pedal, but i have big lockheed a remote servo. Grem
  20. The back side where the webbing is and the diameter where the studs are. Grem
  21. Any more info about that front axle?? Wire ropes on rearmost axle!! ?? why?? short brake pipe?? Grem
  22. Hub section as promised. Grem
  23. Ahhh peace of mind!! Thanks for the input Bill Grem
