  1. in a disco, the 200 is also 111bhp and 195lbft. as for smoother the early 300's probably arent, and gunge up with the EGR, but if you had a later one there would be complications with wiring and the ECU. both are very good engines though! i was wandering with my mates though where did the 200 and 300 come from? my mate suggested that the 200 is 200 because it has 195lbft of torque which would be rounded up as a 195tdi wouldnt sound as good. but then where does the 300 come from? its the exact same power output, not 100 more lbft or bhp. cheers
  2. thanks, ill have to pop into halfrauds and see if they can get it for me.
  3. general grabber AT2's ive heard theyre slightly better than the BFG versions. ive never compared but i have driven the BFG AT's round the farm on a damp morning, it went nowhere lol. same make and model vehicle with insa turbo amazons went everywhere. but theyre a bit too extreme and have no idea how good they are on road!
  4. shouldnt bea diff, sailsburys are usually much tougher than the standard rover axles, i would suspect a halfshaft. to check it would only take 10 mins at the most, just unbolt the hubcaps and pull the halfshafts out, if half of one is missing, its the halfshaft. if theyre both fine then its the diff. i know you havent got a workshop but its the only way i can think of and its only about 10 bolts to check both halfshafts.
  5. yep. however you could make an extending flexi snorkle which has a very boyant float on the top of it, and it must be retractable. getting a bit silly now lol.
  6. my dads was by a local Land Rover specialist and it had done 20,000 afte, probably a bit more. unsure as now sold. never had any problems with it. the remap meant more power so he wasnt booting it everywhere which meant more MPG. great IMO and did 0-60 in about 9 seconds-ish
  7. its alright relocating the ECU, but if you roll in deep water, roof gets wet- ECU gets wet, bye bye engine for a few days, saying that the snorkle might get submerged hmmmmmmm. youd probably need a manual cut out switch aswell as the ignition key. and oud have to get rid of the immobiliser probably. extremely hard from what ive heard about them on Td5's
  8. seems silly to start up a new thread so heck, here it is. solid windjammer blue. theres two codes JUH LRC.424 JUH LRC.424(VI) whats the difference, and wat is mine? september 1991 land rover discovery 200tdi 5dr full spec. thanks a lot
  9. yes it is, but the earlier ones were capable of going deeper just given a properly sealed intake system. now you need to do many things.
  10. also very interesting, and i have learnt a lot about V8's (being a derv man thinking V8's just dont do anything apart from sound, power and fast) they are also tricky.
  11. i see, what about waterproofing? i think the mechanical version is all talked out now without someone with a lot of money, no sense and a proffesional engine building company at their disposal. anyone? lol.
  12. hmm interesting, it probably is a waste of time, but what about using a bosch fuel pump on it and injectors etc, this would mean somehow incorporating the injection pump into the timing etc etc, electrics arent bad, but they do have their downfalls. like water, or could you just completely waterproof a TD5, would be hard because of the ECU. and it still probably wouldnt be able to go camel trophy style up to the rear view mirror in water and out the other side.
  13. was reading a post on an unfortunate TD5 owner who got their car flooded. it came to me, that what if someone were to make a TD5 engine work without the ECU and all the modern electrical gubbins? surely it would be a good engine for off road use, especially in water. it has probably been thought of before but i liked the idea and wandered if it can be done? but could you get the power out of it that you can with a remap (around the 195BHP mark)? any thoughts/ideas very welcome.
  14. sad to hear it, has your disco got an EGR blank? turbo turened up? these will make a big difference. or just get an early TD5? very cheap at the moment because everyone wants the disco 3/4 now. then you could TD5 alive that?
  15. the 300TDI manifold should fit, see no reason why because from what i understand, the defender and disco engines are exactly the same, just the defender one had a modified exhaust manifold to accomodate for the lower position in the chassis rails, hence the turbo on top not on the bottom. IIRC the block however is exactly the same. dont kill me if im wrong
  16. and you can swap the hubs over, if theyre 10 spline oli, (which they are arent they?) my fron axle is off a military 110 from malc, and the only difference is the shape of the end of the stub axles on the hubs. il talk to you about it mikey
  17. mate, i can gve you two of the short halfshafts from my old axle, they dont stick out (like on your rangie) then the alloys should fit, come and have a look some weekend, or ill show you at college next week. mikey
  18. well, at least its not a jeep mitsubishi's are alright going from my dads L200, but i do like the older shape ones better. sure youll come back, but you wont be asking questions on fixing that cos its japanese lol mikey
  19. the fuel filter was slightly full of carp however at the top of a hill today it started steaming much out the bonnet, we got out quick and switched it off, thought it was buggered lol, just the pipe going from the bulkhead somewhere into the back end of the head had split. fix it, top up. job's a fish. mikey
  20. i had a similar problem with mine, sounds simple but try looking at your fuel filter lol mikey
  21. hey guys, ill give you 1 pence if you can guess what it was, it wasnt the sedimenter btw. its been bypassed. mikey
  22. just play with them all, just make records of what you do, and do them one at a time, i have fiddles with, the star wheel, the diaphragm, the smoke screw, the power screw (the one on the side wit the anti tamper collar round it, i think its the one your on about. also i turned up the turbo much great improvement mikey
  23. hmm, okay heres my reportings, this weekend im going to take off the rocker cover, see if theres any unusal goings on in there, check the clearances etc and maintain them. then replace the fuel ffilter, ill also check the pump timing, and if all else fails, take te head off, look at the valves, pistons. Then if that doesent work ill replace the piston rings, and do everything to checlk the right compression (as best as can without compression test) and new head gasket. inow definately know it is not the head gasket, checked all symptoms, and the smoke is fuel not steam! mikey
