  1. The sealant is normally applied in a vain attempt to stop a leak. Mike
  2. Can't go any lower without major impact to top bunk and toilet area. Bear in mind the lower edge of the angled part is only around 200mm above the roof of the ibex and probably inline with the roof rack on the 110. Mike
  3. Been really busy at work recently so today has been the first chance. Spot of cutting. Got to love a sabre saw. Spot more trimming and.... Glued on with copious amounts of sikaflex. Job done. Hopefully it'll help but if it doesn't I think it looks better anyway. Mike
  4. Retirement.....yeah I know that word. Like me I suspect your version of retirement will include large amounts of time hiding from the wife's list in the workshop catching up on the projects I don't have time for now. Mike
  5. We built it long before that but I did double take when the adverts came out for the film. Mike
  6. It's not small, comfortably seats two 6ft+ blokes, is car width and around 13ft long. Mike
  7. Yes and no Honda vf1100 bike in the back sans forks and a formula ford based spaceframe and suspension up front with fiesta uprights from memory. Mike
  8. The original US version we borrowed the design from did build an electric version. The car it's self is still sat in his garage a rear suspension problem made it un-driveable and he lost interest unfortunately. I suspect one day I'll end up doing something with it. Mike
  9. It generally takes longer to make the mould than the panel. Especially if you want big radius or bends. I made a one off body for my dad years ago. It took around a year to make the mould and about a month to do all the panels. Mike
  10. Sorry @steve b and @Snagger I disagree with both of you I don't think it's strictly legal, but as I keep saying I'd happily do it and it's not possible to prove the origin of the parts so it's never going to be a problem at a road side or any other check. Don't forget once a part has been fitted to another vehicle it's technically no longer part of the original vehicle. The biggest problem is it's all open to interpretation so we are going to err on it all being fine where as a policeman/an inspector might say a bolt is the wrong type. I have witnessed an inspector tell us to modify an e marked rear light (thus making it illegal) to pass an SVA! At the end of the day the op asked if it's legal ( I don't think it is). Would I do, it yes of course I would, the same as everyone else on here. Mike
  11. This changing parts is fine as long as the design doesn't change is not strictly true. When I registered my ibex they wanted proof of where the parts came from. I sent them the 2 v5's of the cars I'd used plus receipts for all the new parts. They wanted me to prove which parts came from which vehicle so they could work out the percentage and then assign me an age related plate. Obviously with land rover this is impossible as nothing has useable serial numbers (most modern cars do so everything is traceable). In my case I wrote back saying this is not possible beyond me wrighting a list but I want a Q plate anyway so it's academic. So legally speaking any part that is not original (excluding bushes, bearings etc) is counted on the points. So like I said originally what you want to do is not strictly legal. However as almost nothing on a land rover is traceable it's unlikely to ever be a problem. Especially given that 90% of land rovers out there are not original either. Mike
  12. Strictly speaking non of this is legal as you've already swapped out to many bits of the original 85 car. However we all know that most of the bits are un-traceable so, I would build the 85 car with the best bits and scrap the 86. At least this way you end up with one truck with matching plates/numbers and the other is gone never to return. Mike
  13. You would of chased that for weeks without that information. Thank you for sharing. Mike
  14. Yes, this is true however I can barely afford to run a diesel as a daily let alone a V8 petrol. Mike
  15. A smear of grease on the underside of the cut works much better when using a jigsaw, as it gets pulled up into the cut. Mike
  16. Fridge did a comparison shot. It'll be 2.7m once the solar panels on. Mike
  17. Nah easy just chop the front top corner off and make a fibreglass section at an angle. Mike
  18. We made it to Silverstone, it towed well though it is a bit of a wind break so I might re-visit some aero mods. Sleeping has worked perfectly, even the temporary toilet worked well. Mike
  19. Technically it wouldn't be a fail just a re-think.... Mike
  20. I think the trailer is 2.7m....must measure that tonight. Mike
