  1. It definitely felt better. Though we've only towed it at unto 40ish and for under 10 miles. Mike
  2. I've towed a 12tonner off the Weir at beaulieu as no one could see to get past it safely, straight pull up the road to the hotel. Also extracted a nipper from a hedge on a roundabout because I felt sorry for him, he was very curtious and greatful. But generally these days it's only interesting vehicles as the owners tend to be like minded. Mike
  3. I've got to make a front/doors for the wardrobe and doors for the overhead lockers. Plus a load of oak trims for all the apertures, oh and at least two more coats of varnish. Then it's back to fibreglass work for the shower cubicle. Mike
  4. Fitted. Picture of aforementioned cave locker. And toilet bulkhead temporary fitted. Also managed to get the first coat of varnish on the bare timber. Mike
  5. My ibex confirms all this. The ibex has a shorter, higher overhang at the front than our 110 and is much worse for spray on the windscreen. In fact it's so bad that when I first built mine I had to ask TSD if his was as bad, because I thought I'd done something wrong. So the only way to fix the problem is to fill the gap between the body and ground with more bodywork much like most other 4x4's , which completely defeats the point of owning a defender. Mike
  6. Alterations to the panel by the switches. Basically just two cave lockers to create somewhere to put phone/tablets etc while on charge. Another thing that's been annoying me is that I made the bed frame to wide and didn't allow for the window frame. I've cut 50mm off the bed frame and extended the support on the wall. Also made some overhead lockers to go above my bed this also covers the aluminium door frame from the original roller shutter door. We had a little condensation on this at Silverstone so I wanted to cover/insulate it. Ready to be fitted. Mike
  7. I'm hoping to get out more next year but we'll see. Definitely up for a forum trip though. @Bowie69 On a side note given the amount of rain recently the strata might not be the best choice of lane.
  8. Like you say mines obvious Mike, first name and tomcat, I was building one when I joined the forum. Ironically if I'd joined a year earlier it would probably been Mikedisco, which given @discomikey and I share the same first and surname would of really confused people. Mike
  9. I use a brass plug, standard paper filter and a hd clutch fork. Paper filter is far better because you have to change it every year rather than leave it year in year out. And I've had the same fork failure. Mike
  10. It's curved on the 110 to get access to the tank sender and one of the dampers is mounted on it, same as early range rover but only on the very first 110's. At least that's the only reasons I can think of. Mike
  11. Rear fog is only supposed to come on with headlights not side lights so I suspect the problem is in the headlight switch. Mike
  12. If you can get a defender 200 go for that as all parts are off the shelf so to speak. The disco version works well but you need countersink some holes in the flywheel housing and fit countersunk bolts, you need the engine mounts off the td and you'll need a special down pipe (I strongly recommend the Steve parker item). Some of the the hoses need a little work to make fit and you'll have to home the air filter. Finally you struggle to use the mechanical fan as it can clash with the steering box. Both are disco engines in a 90 and 110 respectively the first is an install I did from scratch and was able to make the viscose fan work. The second someone else started and I just finished it and got it running this one needed an electric fan. Mike
  13. That's where the fuel filter sits on the diesel variant and yes it's rivnuted to the bulkhead. Ours is a 1983 2.25 diesel (now 200tdi) the filt housing is different from the original but in the same place. The earth on ours is a little further over on the glow plug coil from memory. Mike
  14. Cough, fairey 525 winch and bumper it only became superwinch when they bought faireys winch department and produced the H14 using the same pto drop box. I'll take my anorak off now. Mike
  15. It's definitely land rover based as there are a few more photos on Facebook where I found it, I didn't put the FB link for the benefit of those who don't do FB. Mike
  16. Finally had chance to wire up the switch panel and make a panel to fit it in. Also have fitted a reading light in each bunk and made a trim to cover the wire. Mike
  17. I'd definitely go 16ft bed for a 110 as above you'll only get it in the wrong place once either because your underwear is brown or worse.... 16ft allows you to put the engine on the front of the trailer and the rest of the 110 behind it You can't do that with a 14ft. Worth noting that the only way you can move a twin axle around by hand is with the jockey wheel wound up till one set of wheels is off the ground, a Tri is likely to be worse and you certainly can't do this with a load on it. Mike
  18. That's a discovery/range rover lt77 gear box no defender tunnel will fit you will need a special as far as I'm aware. There is a tunnel that fits a defender spec R380 though or an lt85. Mike
  19. I have to admit I've always fitted the dampers the other way up. Now I question this. At least the other way up they wouldn't be able to see if they had boots. Mine are procomp and have gaters attached top and bottom. Mike
  20. I'd also be asking why the break away cable didn't work or was it attached to the bit that fell out, if so I'd be finding something else to attach to. Mike
  21. Not quite, as I found out our 83 doesn't go tax exempt till January by then it'll be nigh on 41 years. 🤬 I'm also led to believe kit cars are exempt from ulez though mine still shows £12.50 a day but I suspect it's because it's diesel. Back on topic, I saw it and thought yes I'd daily that too. It even has a fairey 525 on the front. I thought the cross member was stock bar the recessed lights. Mike
  22. Not on eBay, not even for sale but a saw this on Facebook and thought I really like that. Looks like an early 110 chassis. Mike
  23. Battery's in, just simple timber grounds and a strap. I would of liked them a bit further forward but they are to tall to fit. Wired in a 10amp 240v battery charger for at home/when hook up is available. Mttp hooked up to the solar panel so that's charging to. This is mounted up high just above where I'm planning to have the breaker panel. Mike
