  1. I had loads of hassle trying to get two of the ratchets replaced, within about 6 weeks of buying the thing! I think they gave me a new one of the 1/4, but attempted to fix the 3/8. Stood at the counter for about 45 mins whilst the bloke attempted to bodge the new gearing inside, but was inappropriately equipped and couldn't do it. In the end he gave me another one out of the staff tool box I think.
  2. I put Halford's ultra mega whatever lamps in - made a big difference then I relayed the lights in a similar manner to mike - another big difference (due to more voltage at the lamp) next is the crystals. did consider LEDs, but figured I'd give this route a go first, due to cost. Glad I did now!
  3. Indeed, read so many 'facts' about what they're like, figured I might as well set the record straight! The 'stuff' (ie oil/air mix) comes in from the engine, swirls around the outside of the pot. Oil in theory drains out of the bottom, whilst the air goes up the tube in the middle and out the pipe from there. Not sure what the spring is all about though?
  4. FWIW I replaced the breather today with a new genuine one. Cut the old one open for fun, and everything looked fine, so time shall tell, though I'm not fully convinced. Note that, as rumoured by many, there is no gauze in these things
  5. Turbo shaft is fine - as it should be No I haven't - probably well worth doing. Should probably hook it into a pot or something to catch the oil
  6. Did that at the weekend, gave it a thorough wash in paraffin and a decent dry out. Looked under bonnet today and the oil is back in its usual place - all over the bonnet.
  7. Took everything off at the weekend and there was oil everywhere. Clearly the cyclonic separator wasn't separating. Gave everything a decent wash out with paraffin, today was first trip since weekend, so shall get it apart tomorrow and see what the hoses look like.
  8. Here's a pic taken tonight, after approx 30 miles of driving. Took the breather hose off the airbox and there was a noticeable amount of oil in it. Interestingly there are a couple of oil runs around the rocket gasket, so I wonder if the cyclone breather isn't breathing properly?
  9. Not masses - about 1/4 to 1/2 a cupful (not very scientific I know) every couple of months I would guess. Maybe a bit less. Runs like a dream though (as it should do, being 10 months old), it's just this oil spraying onto the bonnet/engine bay. and at night, with lights behind you, you can just see smoke when putting the accelerator on after idling - which I presume is the 'build up' of oil.
  10. They've given a host of possibilities, the only one of which, bar the turbo seals, which I can think may be an issue is the breather system for the engine. When I replaced the engine/turbo last year, I did give everything a good clean out, but the thing I couldn't quite work out was how to get the oil separator apart (the small plastic 'box' next to the rocker cover). Is it possible, or do you need a new one in order to get a 'clean' one? This is a Defender 200tdi
  11. Think I'll give the place that rebuilt it a ring at lunchtime, see what they say.
  12. I did wonder. No I haven't checked that. Turbo was rebuilt last year, so I presumed a little oil out of there was correct
  13. Ever since the new engine and turbo last christmas I've had a spray of oil from the air outlet side of the turbo, which proceeds to spray all over the bonnet and engine bay. I managed to adjust the jubilee clip a bit better to reduce the amount coming out, but it still does. How can I seal the joint properly - I presume something like exhaust sealant isn't suitable? I've marked on the picture below where it comes out - I had just wiped the turbine house before taking the pic so it does look a bit clean.
  14. Overpriced in my opinion. I got one from ghound, who is on several forums. He often lists them on ebay too and has different grading systems - A being great and so on. Think I got a B grade for £500 delivered. B grade means footwells and hidden areas have been repaired. Had absolutely no problems with it whatsoever.
  15. I used to have a britpart HD clutch, changed it approx a year ago (been in approx 2 years, 20k or so), with the new engine. And it had seemed fine until then (changed out of principle, initially) The bearing, well it ....wasn't really one anymore - rough as anything, barely any balls left in it. And a load of the clutch springs had busted, which explained the rattly noises coming from the box.
  16. sounds like you've discovered what Paddocks are really like then! Absolutely useless at any form of customer service, especially if there's a problem. Think it took me nearly 3 months to get a refund out of them, and they still disputed it.
  17. The nuts that the door hinge bolts go into on the bulkhead are J nuts - not actually part of the bulkhead.
  18. so for my '85 truck I'd need the later pedal I take it?
  19. It's not standard though as they use TD5 rear crossmembers. Richards' can give you the chassis you want, with the x-member you want and the mounts you want. Would be easy if it wasn't for damned regulations!
  20. so you basically just buy this: http://www.lrdirect.com/SKB500280-Pedal-Clutch/?sfi=SKB500280 and swap the master cylinder over?
  21. Richards are brilliant and would get my business every time. Know exactly what they're on about and very happy to discuss modifications. I got my 200tdi chassis with TD5 rear tank mounts, but the correct, tdi, rear xmember - suitably modified so that a tank would fit.
  22. Bizarre, considering the utility applications these vehicles are often used for.
  23. I think he wants it so that he can design a mobile radio base station - hence the need for the internal measurements.
  24. Hi all, Dad's just asked me a favour: he has a colleague at work who is trying to get some info on the 'current 130 hard top' - I'm not sure whether he means a 130, or a 110 hard top, as there isn't a 130 hard top as far as I'm aware. Anyone got any links or similar? I have asked for clarification on the vehicle emails from dad/his colleague below: My colleague was asking me about getting detailed dimensioned drawings of LR vans – seems LR themselves are not forthcoming with anything. Wondered if anyone on the forum would know where he can get such info? A company is trying to design a base station installation but don’t have details of the vehicle. I would have expected all this would be on a website somewhere. Any ideas? With reference to this morning’s discussion. Any ideas on where/how we can obtain detailed internal drawings with measurements for the rear cab of the current Land Rover 130 hard top?
