What to do with old Injectors, Worth anything?£££
Diablo replied to Def300's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
Could try ringing someone like united diesel and asking -
Mine came out with a few taps of a lump hammer. Guess I was lucky!
-
I had very similar symptoms a couple of years back. It was caused by shagged panhard rod bushes, ultimately caused by too low a preload on one of the swivels. Perhaps you've cured the preload now, but not the bushes?

Sudden, sharp jolt on the road?

camping in mid Wales, 200tdi starter dead
Diablo replied to SvBeek's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
The wire from the solenoid to starter hasn't come off has it? Mine used to do that and it would click. -
UJs on the steering column, wheel bearings. there's a good thread in the technical forum, called 'wobbly steering' which gives a host of symptoms and causes. My truck is currently unable to stay straight and that's due to a shagged wheel bearing osf, which I'm sorting tomorrow

Advise on stripdown and new chassis.
Diablo replied to adge cutler's topic in Defender Forum (1983 - 2016)
I know people who have done it in a (very long) day. I took 6 months... ish. but then I was changing the bulkhead, and only working weekends, and changing anything that looked a bit off/worn out etc -
Well there might not be quite a couple of mm, but certainly a fair bit. I've ordered some glue and a prop, so we shall try the glue with a new UJ and see what it's like. If it's no use, the new prop can go on.
-
Will it still work long term even if there's a couple of mm movement currently?
-
Possibly, not heard of it before, but the UJ does seem pretty loose. The internal part of the UJ isn't moving as the cup that side is so loose. There is also a bit of play in the splines, which would be nice to remove. Is there any difference in the early props? mine is part FRC7732, but what's the difference between that and say frc8392 does anyone know?
-
Well, a proper investigation has revealed that it is the usual suspect: UJ But it never rains, it pours: the cup is moving around within the yoke, so I suspect the yoke is shot too, so a new prop needed. And when I took the front of the prop off (ie the handbrake end), a load of oil Mildly miffed out of the area, so that seal is shot too. Joy of joys.

I think someone on Defender2 is offering them at a good rate too - have a feeling it's cheaper than LW

Hard to describe really. sounds a little like when you get a stone trapped in the brakes. Not consistent at all, randomly happens, generally at lower speeds/gears. Worked out it is coming from the rear last night, so jacked up the osr wheel and spun the thing whilst under it. Got a very high pitched and loud twang sort of noise, and it seemed to be coming from the prop. But, again, it doesn't happen regularly and I only heard it once. Left my prop bolt tool at Dad's so that's tonight's job, but any ideas? UJs seemed ok (though getting the prop off will tell). No vibration like you get associated with them going either. All I can think of are UJs, something to do with the diff (there is a bit of play), or perhaps the prop splines are starting to go and the noise is them jumping?
-
The only decent solution to the handbrake problem is to get an X-brake - you'll soon get fed up of stripping the handbrake every time you go through a bit of mud.

On my 200tdi (which admittedly isn't original) it is the brake fluid level

Insulating a wooden shed / workshop
Diablo replied to FridgeFreezer's topic in Tools and Fabrication
Celotex/kingspan is the stuff. Dad got a load of seconds from ebay (I think) for his loft a year or two back. Much cheaper and it was delivered.- 34 replies

I had the exact same symptoms. you may be correct in that it isn't pre-load, but it's a relatively simple check.

Have you checked/redone the swivel preload recently? My death wobble was caused by this, and it ate about 3 sets of PRBs before I cured it.

Mine's ready to go in. Just need to take angle grinder to the redundant bonnet catch bracket. Didn't think that the mat would go over the top though, interesting

Good on you for getting things seen to Jason. Takes a strong character to do that, let along putting it on a forum too. Glad you're getting the help you need now, god forbid what it might have been. Life gives us some tough challenges, let's hope you cruise through this one in the coming months

Agreed, I though Mike was referring to how it was received. Mine is painted.

I think he goes by the name of ghound on the forums. Based in Ireland, but very happily ships over here. It is left galvanised.

Ashtree seem to be a bit of a rip off imo. I got mine from a bloke ont he forusm (not sure if he is on this one mind) and he repairs then galvs them. He has different prices for different quality ones, I think mine was about £500 for one in a pretty good state.
