  1. Maybe they are doing what God did... On the 7th day David and Ian sat down and rested their brains.... Monday they will develop a portal offer, solve the problem of world peace and cure cancer.... See.... Something to look forward to next week... Neil (Wonder if they can sort the Euro problem out as well? Maybe Tuesday..)
  2. No problem.. All I did was ask Someone clever with extra buttons came up with the solution... Neil (The middle man...)
  3. I'm no expert but there is a lot of good information in this thread. Limit EGO correction to about 25% and only over 1500 RPM. Check and change all the items in the suggestions above and clean the plugs properly. Load a safe 3.9 map that someone else has used or that Nige supplied. Then run the engine... Let it warm up and then let Tunerstudio work it's magic tuning live while you wait. Don't be tempted to rev hard, just lift revs and hit some cells and see if TunerStudio wants to change them.... Go for a gentle drive (Is it road legal? I can't remember now..) and see if TunerStudio thinks your map is way off the mark or if it's just tweaking a few cells. When my Hydrocarbons were a little high on MOT day, I lowered the fuelling in just two cells in the VE map and it passed with flying colours. (No cats on mine though!) Let us know how you get on and post up the map you are using if you can. Shame I'm a little too far away to offer hands on assistance. Neil
  4. Great news.... Fingers crossed the mysterious hollow dowel episode is now concluded. Neil
  5. That's only because 90's wouldn't have been big enough for real men with guns Mo!!! Where is this pile.. Can we offer to scavenge and buy items in any way ?? Neil (Happy with his bunny killing 110 "Barge" as it was described recently......)
  6. Was hoping to make this but SWMBO has other ideas...... I hope eveyone going has a great time and look forward to pictures and video !! Neil
  7. Shows why all this lobbying of supermarkets and petrol retailers doesn’t drive prices down… They just can’t afford it… The price is primarily derived from a fictional cost of oil (not actual cost of production) driven by speculation and then the Government taking what is rightfully theirs! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-15462923 Neil
  8. I thought the coincidence was amazing... Thanks for "not" arranging anything Chris... Maybe we should do it again.. Neil
  9. Well I looked at other 4.6 spark maps and decided mine was in need of a change. More advance as suggested in the lower rev ranges and I changed my PWM valve for a genuine Bosch one. I did the map changes first then took a drive with Tunerstudio working it's magic. Then when nice and warm, I set about the PWM valve. While ticking over I checked to see if the recommended 25% was it's closed position. To my surporise it was higher than my old one which was 32%. Looking into the valve, it actually closes at 45%!! So knowing it's closed point, it was duly installed and tested.... New advance and BBC's PWM settings seem to have done the trick. I was able to amble round the farm this afternoon in low ratio without very much hopping or rocking back and forth on the running gear. Not much to climd or decend rund here, but it felt a lot better. More playing soon to see if I can improve it further. Tanks for the comments and suggestions above. Looks like your combined knowledge and help has found the solution once again. Neil
  10. NOS or should Nige just go LS1 and have a real engine? Neil
  11. Go for it Nige.. Just don't strip it down and rebuild it or you will be off the road for another 5 or 12 or 56 months !!! Think of balancing that lot.... Oh and dizzy again.. Nice retro touch for you ! LOL Neil
  12. Ok.. EGO off under 1500 already but will look at acceleration settings. Will look at idle valve settings as I have a copy of the Bosch in there at present and closure values differ a lot to typical Bosch as posted on this forum. (25 on Bosch and 32 on mine etc.) Have Bosch valve spare so will change this weekend and use suggested settings from the board. Thanks for the suggestion of the extra advance Dave. I remember a discussion somewhere on here talking about that valley look in the timing map to help with stalls.. Maybe a bit of general playing this weekend to see how stable I can get it below 1500 crawling around the farm. When you say there are other ways to get improved economy, can you explain a little more please? I know this is potentially introducing yet another thread of discussion, but I'm keen to learn.... Any more ideas / things to try?
  13. I did some reading last night on some of the MS forums and it was way above my level of comprehension.... So, back in here to discuss with those who can take long words, understand what's going on and translate into short words for the likes of me.... The situation..... I went playing in Wales over the weekend with other forum members. Having a great time, but my truck likes to "bunny-hop" and will not just settle and effectively crawl along unless on a nice climb. I'm happy with it's road performance and on the run home from Wales (Even with some loud pedal moments) I got 18.43 MPG.... Question / discussion part 1 So, rather than try and have everything in one map, I was wondering about a map for off-road and then back to normal for pottering around on tarmac. I'm sure MS (Not sure which hardware / version) can handle using 2 maps, but what can you change on the fly using this method? Is it only spark map or fuel map or can I have totally different closed loop settings as well for example ? (or do I really require a totally different map loaded each time I want a change usage to get totally different settings?) Question / discussion part 2 Crawling.... (Not the sort while trying to placate SWMBO when caught spending money on the 110....) How can I get the engine to not react to stalls as violently and just plod like wot a diseasel does ? I'm sick of worrying about wrecking props and gears by banging back and forth as the engine revs change and just want a map that will effectively hold it pretty steady so I can choose Low range and crawl through lanes.... I'm happy to forgoe anything that we would regocnise as economy (Even compared to the 18MPG) and even limit revs to 3k max and spread the table out more for the lower rev usage... (i.e almost tell MS what I want in the 12x12 table rather than let it extrapolate) Do I go for more advance? Flat / virtually no advance from tickover to 2k? What builds in more torque? Happy to build a second map to play and tune in low ratio, so suggestions most welcome. Neil
  14. Uploaded a few here.... http://s216.photobucket.com/albums/cc270/izanobbie/Wales%202011/ Neil
  15. Yes.... I think he had a good weekend after arriving in Wales... Little TLC on the TD5 loom yesterday I heard but other than that all went ok. Neil
  16. Well.. Back safe and sound... Big thanks to Chris for not organising yet another fun trip Great weekend.. Glad to meet some of you again and others for the first time. Now to rest.. Neil
  17. Two groups is a bit dissapointing from the membership, but it will be cosy S'pose we will have to try and make sure we drink enough to help the Welsh economy.... Neil
  18. Doh !!! I have never really looked that closely.. I thought they are rectangular... I'll have to look now ! Will solve the riddle for sure though ! Neil
  19. Mine is installed tabs at the bottom. These are pertly hidden behind the dash as you suggest. High-ish current flowing so keep the wiring as short as possible... Neil
  20. Aye.... Still trying to find suitable bribes for Paul, but hope to top up our group with Paul on Saturday. Neil
  21. Does anyone know if the hole required for a fuel pump in the TD5 tank is the same as the later V8 pump and sender?? They look similar.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LANDROVER-DEFENDER-90-TD5-TANK-FUEL-PUMP-FUEL-SENDER-/360293513433?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D3%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D3626952395671168175 and http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220748899238?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 I'm considering a 120l fuel tank to try and make fewer fuel stops in my life..... They are all TD5 / Diesel derived now as it seems there is not much of a market for V8 specific stuff! So do people think I could upgrade to the later type EFi fuel pump with integrated sender if I changed tanks ? (No side hole for sender unit as I have currently in my 110) The engine is on Megasquirt and I'm assuming the EFI pump would meet the fuel pressure requirements. Also, any idea of a head unit that I could use with said sender if suitable? Anything out there that can be calibrated and still with 52mm diameter?? Thanks in advance Neil
  22. Mine is on a manual switch (Carling) and high amp relay and if I forget to switch it off I'm not worried.... I recon it will die a day or two earlier in the end from the added use but I decided to keep it simple... (Note to self.... Fix the wiring to the rear one.. Not been working for three years!!!) Neil
  23. Just read this in a BBC report... "Rear Admiral Morisetti recalled that when commanding an aircraft carrier, it took a gallon of oil to move just 12 inches (30cm), while as many as 20 tonnes per hour were burned during a period of intensive take-off and landing." I feel quite good at 14MPG now..... Full article here if interested.... http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-15342682 Neil
